September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and our new Aggie founded nonprofit seeks to provide financial and emotional support to families facing this terrible disease as well as encourage research and safer treatment options for pediatric cancers.

Formed in honor of our son Adam who is a new member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 2029, we are thrilled and honored to announce that the cities of College Station, Bryan, as well as Brazos County are issuing a joint proclamation for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and our local campaign Color Brazos Valley Gold.

We are grateful for any support to the official fundraiser and are also selling shirts and yard signs.

Im all for supporting research to find a cure for childhood cancer.

However, I can't be the only person whose first thought was "why is there a month dedicated to people who support childhood cancer..?" (Damn you ADHD brain after the meds wear off at night!)

Because there is one for breast cancer in October ??

I don't understand your comment
September has been the childhood cancer month for a while now. It doesn't get much recognition and is completely overshadowed by October for breast cancer awareness.

Maybe that is why people need to be made aware because if even a small fraction of what society knows about breast cancer due to October and pink would help to solve issues with children with gold.

Its a fine line in wording and how my brain read it. " 'Childhood cancer' awareness month" v " 'Support Childhood Cancer' awareness month". Essentially a month of awareness for Childhood cancer and a month of awareness for those who support Childhood cancer

Sorry my brain works differently than yours. I thought this was still the GB

I understand this is the GB but what you said was making fun of something that doesn't need to be made fun of ever.

Wording or otherwise.

You are better than that. Certain things you don't joke about even on the GB

Thanks captain bring down. Also- you dont know me, so to say I am better than that is quite presumptive of you.

Next point- I wasnt making fun of it, jackwagon. That's literally how my brain read it. Should I accuse you of making fun of me and my neurodivergent brain?

You are correct. I don't know you. You probably aren't better than that. But to get on a thread regarding cancer in children and to say you mistook something based upon wording to make a joke as evident by your " this is still the GB " comment shows a lack of empathy for those who have suffered and passed like my daughter from cancer as a kid.

It isn't a joking matter.

I hope you get better. Have a good day

Way to assume that childhood cancer hasn't affected me. Or that I haven't attended the funeral of a child who died of cancer. Or hell- to assume I haven't also buried a child. Way to be an ass. Good job. Hope you feel morally superior and better about yourself tonight knowing you "sure showed me".

Btw- I'm sorry about the loss of your daughter. No one should have to bury their child, and it's a pain that no one should experience.

How am i feeling morally superior ??

You simply tried to make something into a "GB thing" when it really shouldnt be

I started off by explaning why gold was important and that childhood cancer isnt something discussed much at all and that only 4% of all cancer research/money goes to childhood cancer

You got on a thread raising awareness for childhood cancer

Let me ask you before this thread did you even know Gold and September was for childhood cancer awareness?

If not then the OP shed light on something most people dont know about

If you did know and it affected you I doubt seriously you would have ever made a "GB" style comment

and you are correct no one should have to bury a child

but this whole discourse is taking away from that the OP tried to say...the ony good thing that is coming from our back and forth is that it stays at the top and maybe more people become aware

Aggie VB and baseball I know have had nights and shirts for Gold awareness

As many know tomorrow begins the month of September and the cause for awareness in childhood cancer.

Go Gold is something that was an afterthought until it hit home..on April 24th a few years ago to our family

I would hope the store listed above doesnt close on Sept 1st as more people become aware of what September means in the world of child cancer

The person holding the picture to tha far left is my ex wife holding a picture of our daughter Ashlynne.

The person next to her became good friends as they familes made numerous trips to and from Temple at the same time over the course of numerous doctor's appt and chemo sessions. Loreali passed a week before our daughter and they have remained good friends to this day. Her memorial was the morning of the day that our daughter passed later that night. They were there for each other then even going through their own personal sorrow and are still there for each other today.

Please support however you can. My nephew was diagnosed with bone cancer at 3 years old. He is the sweetest child that you could ask for. He is now 10 and living as good of a life as possible. He needs hearing aids due to chemo, and needs a back brace for active times, but he is so positive that he enlightens your day no matter what. I picked St. Judes as a place to donate because that is where he received his treatments.
Do your research and donate what you can. Also just pray at a minimum. God will always help children, whether in this world or the next.
