I love brisket.

Someone here gave me some good tips on burger grilling and those came out really well. So thank you!

How can I smoke a brisket in a relatively inexpensive setup at home? Basically I am looking to buy something off Amazon and use that. Electric also fine, not looking for the authentic making experience.

Do you want to smoke the brisket low and slow?

You can do that on a grill, but it is going to take a particular setup and a lot of patience.

Or are you looking at doing it in the oven?

Honestly, if you're going to go this route, just buy one of the HEB ones and do it in your oven.

I cooked for years on a cheap "Old Smokey" charcoal grill. It can be done pretty cheap and easily.

Put it in an oven bag, on a roasting pan and throw in the oven at 300 deg til done (around 200-215). Your house will smell though.

Buy one of those cheap $15 Expert grills at Walmart.

Put a small disposable aluminum pan in the bottom. Fill pan with water.

Put charcoal in chimney starter, light it up.

Pour grayed charcoal in grill around aluminum pan. Put wood chips on charcoal to create smoke.

Place brisket on grill grate. Put top on grill.

There, mini-smoker.

Replace wood chips and charcoal as needed.

Low and slow is the order of the day.

After the bark forms on the brisket, some people wrap it in foil.

Normal guideline for cook time is 1-1.5 hours per pound.

Buy a used pellet grill off the marketplace.

Easiest is to just dump a bottle of ketchup on it then pop it in the microwave for 30 minutes.

Slow is good. Is there something available which I can just turn on and come back after x hours? Something beginning friendly you can recommend? Maybe once I see what I can do, I can try how to do it the "real" way with more customizations.

For now, I am trying to get to the end product with least complications and lowest chance of messing up.

All, please post Amazon links if you have any recommendations for what I can buy.

This one? It's $15 at Walmart. Anything electric you know of?

Bite the bullet and Gen an inexpensive Pellet Grill. You'll end up wanting one after you frustrate yourself with all other inexpensive methods. Z-Grills does a surprise box Halloween special where you may get lucky and get a premium grill. I ended up with the basic one, but it was still at a discount

At current beef prices, at the chance of getting too flustered on a grill set up, try an oven route. Jewish style brisket.

Funny story, I smoked a brisket in the carribean on a dinky grill of an old helium tank. Used cashew fruit wood that was available. The people thought I was crazy until they tasted the final product. I also impressed myself.

Smoker or pellet grill are the only acceptable answers. The rest of you are destroying expensive meat.

Bubala, don't be a putz. Call your uncle Irving. You know he makes a brisket that is to die for.

Also your cousin Leah got married. When are you going to get married? I don't want to die without having grandchildren.

I know you said cheap, but hear me out:

$800 smoker with tax or find one used:
https://www.academy.com/p/old-country-bbq-pits-wrangler-smoker

$30
http://amazon.com/Wireless-Digital-Thermometer-Grilling-Smoking/dp/B08BXCGD76/?th=1

$21
https://www.amazon.com/Franklin-Barbecue-Meat-Smoking-Manifesto-Aaron/dp/1607747200/

My local place that makes good bbq is up to $30 a pound for brisket. $4 a pound at the store. You lose 30% to trimming and cooking, so consider it $6 /lb to make. EVery 15 pounder you make that nets 10 lbs of brisket saves you $240. So after about 4 briskets, you've paid for the grill.

Or if nothing else, that's the baseline for when you decide to go to the full authentic experience.

This method changed my life. I've smoked some briskets on a $40 grill from Home Depot I would put up against a lot of restaurants. Trust the process and you can't go wrong.

ETA: I use a remote-read meat thermometer for each step of the process. I set an alarm for 170 degrees and go back to bed.

Microwave on high for 45 minutes then let rest 5 minutes. Pour 1 1/2 cups of ketchup evenly over top. This is a recipe from Connecticut that is sure to please.

Buy a Weber Smokey Mountain cooker. They're relatively cheap compared to other smokers and they're not difficult to learn to use. They have a cult following and there are several websites/forums full of tips and tricks. Make great BBQ.

An oven roasted brisket is easy and cheap, but it won't be smoky and there won't be bark. I would start with this and learn how to cook and slice the meat. Trim excess fat and deckle. Heavy salt and pepper. Wrap in foil. Cook 275F until internal temp is ~205F and a probe slides in without any resistance (should feel like you're stabbing jello). Should be 6-12 hrs depending on size of brisket. Most importantly let it rest 2-4 hours before slicing. Wrap it in a towel while it rests.

A pellet smoker is easy and straightforward if you want a good smoked brisket with little to no learning curve and effort. But they're not cheap. If you want to spend the money you can go buy one now and have a good first brisket.

An electric or propane smoker is cheaper than a pellet smoker and almost as easy.

A Weber kettle grill or Weber Smoky Mountain is mid-priced, will last forever, and is low effort but takes some practice before you get a consistently good product.

A legit side firebox stick burner is expensive, time intensive, takes a lot of practice, but results in the best product.

Just throw it in a slow cooker with salt and pepper.

Cook it for 8-12 hours.

You're done.

I was really digging this until the dude pronounced pecan wood chips "PEE-kahn." Instant loss of all credibility.

Honestly, I'd pick a different cut of meat. Chuck actually smokes great at home and smaller, so its much more managable.

You can use a webber kettle as well. Ive gotten some great results with that.

Even easier for a newbie:

Put 10 lb. brisket in large crockpot. Add Montreal Steak Seasoning.Set to Low for 12 hours.

Shred.

If you have a Sous vide, serious eats has a recipe that turns out really good. It even has a smoke ring and bark. It's time consuming and you'll need to buy some curing salt, but it's pretty fool proof.
