For some reason of which I have no idea the phrase Poor Yorick popped into my head yesterday. Obviously I know it's a Hamlet reference. Which then jogged a memory that maybe there used to be a caf/coffee shop on campus in the late 90s called Poor Yoricks (maybe Pour Yoricks for a little pun?). Maybe in the MSC or Evans? Am I completely misremembering and just made that up?

It was in Evans. Was still there in the 2000s. It is now a Starbucks. And it sucks.

Rumours was in the MSC. It is also gone, which makes me sad.

I always say "Poor Jurgis," which is a reference to Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle."

I had Dr. Arnold Krammer for Post-Civil War US History, and he talked about that book and/or "Poor Jurgis" nearly every lecture it seemed. I bought the book that semester and read it so that I'd know what he was talking about in class.

It was required reading for our Animal Science 307 (meat science) class taught by Dr. Gary Smith way back in 1979.

RIP Tomato Bar in the Commons. Best food on campus circa 07-08.

I remember it very differently. I remember it being shut down multiple times for roaches.

Poor Yorick's was to the right of Evan's library entrance and was for sure still open into 2007-2008 or so if not later.

Pro tip, don't ever go into your favorite restaurant's kitchens.

When I was in Aggieland in the late 70s, I'd sometime hum or sing Poor, poor, pitiful me (the Warren Zevon original version, which came out during those years).

Once, I was staring at my blue book (I think it was during a macro econ exam) and I, unintentionally, was quietly humming the tune. This nice young lady sitting a few seats away goes psst, psst! I glance over and she puts her finger to her lips to silently shoosh me.

Hey, I was having a rough time with that exam. This thread took me down memory lane.

What was the mini cafe/restaurant that was connected to sbisa but not part of sbisa? Not the underground. They sold coffee and good pizzas.

Wanna say it started with a B. It was open late 2000s and maybe early 2010s

Cheesesticks, coffee, and Ren & Stimpy when you needed to turn your brain off for an hour or so.

Was that In the food court area where the ChickFila is/was? It was called Stone Willys when I was there, they had great pizza rolls.

Was it Rumour's that had the flat top? I remember the italian sandwich on croissant, grilled into a melty utopia.

I'll bring it back! ...on my porch with a flat top...

Thanks. I would use my 5-meals-a-week meal plan to pick up sandwiches for my girlfriend (now wife) and me. Good times.

Gotcha. Must have changed it up a lot. The basement was just a regular cafeteria like Sbisa/Duncan when I was there

I ate so much damn Chick-fil-A in the Commons. Although good, it never tasted quite like Chick-fil-A and all they had was Polynesian sauce. For almost a decade after graduating I couldn't stand Chick-fil-A.

Have since reversed course. CFA is delicious.

Barely remember Rumours and Poor Yoricks. Sucks they've been removed or replaced with garbage corporatey Starbucks.

Sibisa's make your own breakfast for $10 was amazing. As much bacon as you could cook.
