My boss told me he's going to retire in 3 years. I believe he will around 55.

Got me thinking....How many years do you plan on working before you retire? I'm thinking 29-30 years..?

The country took another big step towards socialized health care today.

The huge influx of uninsured is going to turn into a big ole oopsy for the GOP.

So less today than yesterday.

  • 10 years would be my goal but likely have to take too big of a hit (55)
  • 12 years is more likely (57)
  • 15 years until I would be at full retirement. (60) (a lot would have to change for me to work til I'm 60).
Now IF healthcare is affordable at 55 and not an obscene amount, I could potentially "walk away" for 3-5 years and then come back and retire and not take the penalty for retiring before 60. That is what I am really hoping for.

I started planning my retirement when I was 17 when I opened up my IRA account. My wife retired at 62 in July of 2023 and I retired at 58 in Oct of 2023. Loving it because now can travel where & when we want.

suggestion you make sure you work on reducing expenses & paying everything off before retirement.

I will be officially retired from full-time work in a couple years at age 52 when I can start collecting my pension benefits, but I'll probably teach college students until I don't feel like it anymore, however long that is. I doubt I will ever stop composing music.

I started my first job out of college March 2, 1992. I remember waking up that first morning thinking to myself, "I don't know how long this will take, but at the end of today I will be one day closer to retiring."

We opened some up for our kids but they don't know about them. They are in our names for now so that the older one could not withraw the funds now. Hoping this helps start them off with a little nest egg.

I'll retire in 1.5 years when I turn 65.

I could punch now, but my wife will work for another decade and I don't want to be the househusband quite that long.

My upper limit is 60. I don't plan on working after that. Life is too short to waste in a soul sucking job. At hat point I will have max 10-15 years of good life, so might as well do what I want.

Until then I plan to work but on things I want to work on.

I'll be eligible to retire in 9 years, but I can't imagine that I'll want to. Maybe I'll feel differently then, but I'm in no hurry to stop working.

I don't suggest this for everyone but a little over 2.5 years ago I gave away pretty much everything I owned and started driving west. I had arranged with my employer to work remotely as long as I wanted to. I stopped driving in the east valley suburbs of Phoenix. I met great people almost immediately. I worked for 15 months and never left. Like I said I don't recommend this strategy for everyone.

I'm 69 and still working. Signed client contracts through 2026, so I will go at least to 70.5. We are more than set for retirement but work is rewarding. And we come and go as we please. God has blessed us beyond measure.

It is best to retire at the end of a good year.

My 16yo daughter got her first W-2 job this summer. Within a week I took her to the Schwab office to open a Roth for her. My son is 15 and has hinted he wants a job too. I plan to do the same with him.

That is music to my ears Sir! I really wish we had personal finance class requirements in JR high, High School, & College. I hope our athletes are being taught personal finance because I'm sure most of them haven't been taught about finances and some are getting large sums of money that will pass right through their fingers. I'm so happy to see one person teaching their kids about delayed gratification. Well done Sir!

I might retire in a year - 65/66 age. Right now I'm getting paid a very good salary and provided with great health care to come to the office two days a week. Allows me to play a round or two of golf during the week, plus I have over 40 days of vacation. Its sort of hard to give up the salary when this job is so easy right now.
