Has this always been a thing? I'm seeing more and more parents treating Easter like Christmas and getting their kids expensive gifts. My next door neighbor got his son a dirt bike for Easter. My son's friends are getting similar things. His best friend got a Switch 2. Another got an electric scooter. When I was a kid, it was easter baskets with candy and cheap things like kites, bubbles and sidewalk chalk. My kids get similar things.

Growing up, we got candy and then spring clothes.

My parents essentially only bought clothes in the spring and the start of school unless we needed something specific.

I originally started out similar with my kids or just like pool toys or smaller stuff.

This was my 16-year-olds. She's been begging for the Lego set. I didn't even bother to get a Easter basket down lol

But I agree some are extreme.

We do Easter candy….usually a nice shirt….something biblical…and something unique but also small like this year we're going on our first ever cruise so everyone got new bottles of sunblock….

Never did anything that would've been considered a big gift of any sorts…

Makes sense

Christmas = Jesus' birthday
Easter = Jesus's rebirthday

It's probably good that your kids learn at a young age that their friend's parents love them more.

Yep, and they'll be motivated to be more successful than you, so that they can afford to get things for their kids that you couldn't

We do an Easter basket with some candy and maybe a gift or two and then we always do toothbrushes.

Never heard of big gifts. Now blowing $200 on a brunch... Yeah we've unfortunately done that...

The baskets, not including the actual egg hunt for the niblings. Nothing fancy, just crosses and crafts and candies.

When Benny was young we hid Easter eggs and gave him candy. I had no idea people did more than that and buying clothing. When I was little, we got an Easter outfit every year to wear to church. It was invariably AWFUL. I considered starting a "Nightmare Easter Outfits of the 70s" thread.

My first entry (I have more)... From Easter 1976. I was four. How did my mother ever think this looked good?!?

We got an Easter basket with some candy and usually a shirt or something and when we were young maybe a coloring book or something

Bikes? Scooters? Motorcycles? Video games?

Yeah. Nothing commemorates the resurrection of our savior more than a video game I can use to kill zombies or aliens.

Empty crosses are pretty common on easter

I'm curious how long it will take Big Sugar to normalize candy on Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Should be stone rolled away from an empty tomb.

Would certainly be cheaper to get them a basket full of rocks

For some reason last week I got a craving for a Brach's Hunt Egg. You know, the pastel hard-sugar shell with some questionable marshmallow creme inside. Gone. In fact, most of what I think of as Easter candy is gone.

Instead it's all regular candy packaged for Easter. Nerds, Reese's, the Milky Way chocolate bar mix, and so on. What a disappointment.

I saw a video of Billy Sheehan opening a three year old package of Peeps. They looked brand new. Nothing can harm them.

My kids get a s-load of candy. Some in their basket Easter morning and whatever they get from the egg hunt. That's it. And they're happy!

I was lucky if I got a new VHS tape or candy at Easter

Was never a huge celebration for us. Go to church, eat as a family, eat a small chocolate bunny

Then I found out about the Easter bunny and the gifts stopped

Every year for Easter I take the entire family to Rome because if it wasn't for the Romans, we wouldn't have Easter to celebrate.

Has Easter Monday always been a thing? With schools closed? I don't remember this being a thing

OP, I'm sorry you're poor. I'll start you a Gofundme so your kids can have nice things.

New thing as far as I know. Always only had Good Friday off. But it seems like schools have tons more holidays and early releases now.
