Happy hour margaritas to go, with a bean and cheese taco for breakfast tomorrow doesn't suck! The margs aren't great but they are cheap!!
15-20 years ago Taco Cabana was a place you could actually go sit down and have a pretty good meal. In recent years, it has turned into an absolute ****hole trash heap. Good riddance. They deserve to go out of business.

Truth. I loved getting the 1/2 Chicken Flameante for lunch.
The amount of times that we went there after going to Northgate at two or three in the morning I couldn't count.
It also was my hangover meal the next day. Essentially tortillas and queso and that was it.
A kids meal was like $3 and it was perfect.
I just feel like the Bryan location is so dirty. About the only time I go there is if I need a bunch of cheap tacos because they're quite a bit cheaper than others in town but that's like once a year.

service was ass. would never leave without checking the takeout order. food was still good though. 12 tacos for $10 for kids and family chicken fajitas that was several meals. $2 margaritas to boot
TC is a victim of branding milking and dumping. Basically a chain is sold and the name and brand recognition are ridden to the bottom by corporate dbags while costs are cut and quality shrinks.

A dozen tortillas for $1 was the perfect after-bar meal to soak up all the alcohol you imbibed on Northgate. A cup of queso, a visit to the salsa bar, and you were set.

I am still carrying around 5-10 lbs from my late night visits to TC's.
Rosa's is what tc was. But even now Rosa's is slowly changing
Chicken taco meal w/ chips and queso
Taco Palenque has replaced TC in San Antonio, but it ain't cheap like TC used to be. I haven't been to TC in probably 5 years.

Taco Cabana didn't make it in my hometown either. I was shocked. Where do they still exist.
Even TC Mexican food is better than any of the crap they serve in Colorado.

There's a great little mexican place in Buena Vista. The al pastor tacos were indistinguishable from the ones here.
TC used to be good in the early 90s. Since then, it has gone the way of Freebirds and Whataburger.

Schlotzsky's is easy enough to make at home once you get the bread right, though. Fortunately for customers, it is kinda hard to completely screw up a simple sandwich. The last time I went to one, the Original was still the Original.

Rocky Mountain Taco in Minturn is awesome. They also have a food truck right by the vail brewing company near Eagle Vail. Good spot to get a beer and some tacos.
Their alambre quesadilla is so good.
Other than that it's best to head down to New Mexico for better options.

It's New Mexico, dude. All of their food is merely a vehicle to get the green chile sauce into your piehole.

I have fond memories of the one in College Station and was shocked to get Margaritas at one in Atlanta, Ga. They built one in Longview and tried it on two different occasions in the same location and it failed, because it sucked. The food was bland and terrible. Taco Bueno kicked it's ass up and down the street.

Whataburger still mostly resembles its old self unless you're talking about the old A-frame store. The days of TC being Uber cheap, after-hours, grubby tacos and enchiladas is long gone.
The quality of the patties has gone down since the 80s and 90s.

The description is the same, but it's no where near what it was when they were making the bread in store. Meat got a little thinner, cheese got a little thinner, bread not as fresh. Tell me it's exactly like Freebirds and that you can get the burrito built the same way it just does not taste anything like it used to.

Love me some taco palenque. First discovered while working down in Cotulla years ago. Wish we had it in Boerne.
