I've never been through the memorial. Is it good? I was a student that fall and was involved with Bonfire extensively, and I remember everything that day. I've just been reluctant to go since it was completed. I think next time i'm in town, i'm going.

stump, I am in your shoes...I see it all like it was yesterday. I finally went to the memorial when I was in town for the tu game in November. I spent about 2-3 hours there. Used a lot of kleenex but was in some ways very healing for me.

i was using a little dinky table top (read 3 inches tall) tripod. it was doing that not quite fog/not quite rain business at the time. i took nearly 90 photos (ahh the joys of digital) and those were the only ones that came out decent. i will be getting a better tripod soon, i hope.

Those of you who haven't been yet...Go. Yes, I feel a sense of loss when I go, but I also feel a sense of healing. I feel they did an excellent job. Plan on spending a while when you go. It's best when you can just wonder through it at your own pace.

also, may i add:

if you dont understand some of the features, ask.

there is quite a bit of thoughfulness and symbolism built into that Memorial.


since i am an engineering dork, i appreciate little things like the large earthen berm that keeps out a lot of the noise and creates a quite 'sanctuary-like' atmosphere.

35lights....can you email me the full resolution ones. I would love to put those in my scrapbook. They are wonderful!

Agreed. I remember my roommate grabbing my shoulder and pulling me backwards as the EMTs asked us to back up. I couldn't turn away.

Coincidentally, the place we backed up to is now the very entrance of the sidewalk to the memorial. Made the symbolism that much more surreal on my first visit out there.

do any of you know if KAMU filmed the Memorial Dedication? Daughter hurt her eye right as the service began and we left quickly at the end so I never had a chance to check into this.
