Nothing will ever come close to topping either of the originals (both the British and American versions of The Office), but this doesn't look bad? Not hilarious or anything, but at least worth a shot...

I'll give it a shot, but I don't have high expectations.

Even The Office and Parks and Rec took time to hit their stride, so hopefully if it isn't immediately great it gets a chance.

I'm always looking for a good new goofy/feel good comedy so I hope it does well.

I really like Domhnall Gleeson so will give it a shot with no expectations of quality.

I will definitely give this a try.

Tim Key - the guy who plays Ken - was in a quirky little movie called "The Ballad of Wallis Island" I stumbled upon a few weeks ago and really enjoyed him and the movie.

Saw The Ballad of Wallis Island as well a couple weeks back. Really nice little movie. I thought the first half was better than the second half, but Key was great throughout. Could easily see him being the breakout from this.

Agree with you first half/second half thoughts. But a pleasant surprise overall.

Hmm I wonder why they made this switch. Originally the show was supposed to release the first 4 episodes then the other 6 weekly. Now they are going to drop all 10 episodes at once.

Who knows how true this is, but this is the official reason...

Quote:

Citing positive responses from people who have previewed the series (though not in print; reviews are embargoed until closer to the premiere), Peacock, Universal Television and the show's producers decided to make the change and drop the entire season at once. The move will also put the entirety of The Paper in front of audiences several weeks before the start of the traditional TV season makes the premiere calendar even more crowded.

My guess is that they want to drop it all at once so that if it's a flop they can move past it quickly, rather than drag out more episodes to be nit-picked or criticized weekly. Otherwise I don't get the point of dropping all the episodes at once.

Oh, good. So in three years will get a four episode "Season 2 Part 1" and then six months later we'll get a two episode "Season 2 Part 2."

looks like we are about to find out the answer to the "would the office work today" question that's often asked.

IMHO, the only way this works is if they aren't afraid to offend. I really want this to be good because the Office (both versions) are two of my most beloved shows of all time

Watched the first two episodes. I thought it was actually pretty decent. It felt more Parks and Rec than The Office in my opinion, which isn't necessarily bad. I love both for different reasons.

The pilot does an alright job of kicking things off, but I thought the second episode was better. Hopefully it keeps getting better with each episode.

Oscar feels forced in though. So far I kind of wish he hadn't been included. Hopefully his inclusion gets better later.

Similar to how the US office started out mirroring the British version heavily until it grew into its own, I'm hoping this show lays off the forced references to the original and becomes its own show.

Really like this show. Really good. It stands alone as its own thing. Not once has it felt like it is trying to replicate the office.

I like it so far but Esmerelda is lame, so much that its getting annoying. There's definitely been some funny stuff. Agree it feels like an Office and Parks hybrid.

How is Parks different from The Office? I never watched the former.

They're similar since both are set in offices with the documentary element. But the style and characters here feel more like Parks especially without Dwight and Jim as rivals. Still early, we'll see how it turns out.

Both were great, but I prefer Parks & Rec. Outstanding show.

I always thought The Office was funnier, both in how hard I laughed and consistent funnyness. However, Parks and Rec I think is more consistent in it's quality. The Office really dips in quality after Steve Carrell leaves.

Parks and Rec was more feel good and had better side (and main?) characters. The Office has a lot of characters that were unlikeable for different reasons - Andy, Nellie, Packer, Angela, etc. Parks and Rec all had characters that were generally kind and likeable.
