The fact that the chorus is playing both in the parking lot drive by scene and right when the bell rings, but also at one point while they are showing the various people hanging on the parking lot, the line "don't know where I'll be in a year" plays.
That is the perfect embodiment of what it would have felt like to be a rising senior. They don't know where they'll be in a year when they graduate.
