  • Unified pots with your buddies are Good Bull
  • If it IS your first cut, wear your virgin stripe so everyone knows to help you out.
  • Get some Dickies at walmart, and don't paint them
  • never wash your grodes (I can't find mine anymore, blast it)
  • Bring something to eat and drink
  • Axehandles and axe heads are probably essential
  • Learn the Lingo:

F*ck:ng logs
Killing trees (corps fish can know this)
"1,2 Fuc|< t.u. -- 3,4 Bevo's a whor3 -- 5,6 (fill in the blank) suck di<K -- 7,8 MASTURBATE"

If your gonna be on stack in the future bring your pliers and a large nail.

Anything else from Old Ags? It's been a while

Do whatever the dead pots tell you to and don't ask questions.

Do all of us need to have axes or just some of us?

a piece of masking tape or something around your leg, so people know you haven't been out for cut before.. safety issue I think.

One axe for every 2-3 people is usually adequate, but for the love of all that is holy, please make sure it is sharp.

There will be a grindstone there where you can sharpen your axe.

Also, bring machetes and hatchets for clearing the brush.

SithSeraph... well done... even down to the "large nail"... This outta make you laugh. I was out on '94 rebuild stack one night, i was on swing. While I was using the nail to tighten the bailing wire, I totally remeber dropping it into stack. But luckally another dude on swing had an extra. He repelled over to me, squared me away, AND then I bummed a chaw (dip of Copenhagen)... one of those memorable moments. I guess this belongs in the "Bonfire Memories" post. Oh well.. Gig Em!!

After I moved this summer, I was unpacking a box. This box had been packed since probably 2000 and it had remained unpacked through about 6 moves since then. Just a lot of crap I don't need very often (or ever). In the bottom of that box I found about a dozen penny nails. I had a bad habit back in the day of going home from stack and tossing it on my desk and forgetting to grab it before I left the next night. Over the years I accumulated quite a collection of them.

And for the love of God, do what your told to do out there...

Virgin Stripe = athletic tape (white) around your right/left leg to let everyone know you're new to cut.

Slim-jim, why no first timers on stack? I guess this is a throw back to the wedding cake design, but when a new shift came in for stack, they'd line us all up and we'd rush the stack and the first 20 or so people who could climb up the logs on Sstack and get in a seat were allowed to stay on stack. Including freshmen.

One of the items brought up in the reports was that the quality of wiring had some impact as to the second stack entering into the first stack on the 1999 Bonfire. Further, it was reported that in the past, only upperclassmen were allowed on stack and thus, the conclusion (or perception) drawn is that it is better to have more experienced people wiring, thus no freshman.

I see, but one of the main reasons it fell, was not poor technique. It was poor teaching of the technique. As long as the right things are being taught, freshmen can learn to do them. Also, the cable "hoops" were excluded in the 1999 collapse, something my sister and I both noted and brought up before It fell, but we were ignored.

However, I can see the point that it could be a privelege earned type thing. Something the U is severly lacking these days is rights and priveleges and the distinction of who should be doing what.

I was initially just bringing up the point that fish were allowed on stack...

some fish are allowed to wire on the bottom (standing on the ground) but they dont get to get on stack... it's the whole experience in being around stack.. thing

Freshmen are better used for the grunt work that requries less thinking instead of the wiring. Also sometimes when youre wiring you might feel a little rushed to get it done quicker. Freshmen would feel pressured by upperclassmen to finish the job regardless of quality while and upperclassman is more likely to tell em to shut the **** up and make sure he does a good job on the wire. Thats just my observations from bein out there.

Sith the only pity that is given comes in the form of incessant hell-giving.
