Separate auto accidents claim 2 in Brazos Valley

At least two people were killed Saturday in separate accidents on Brazos Valley roads.

A 10 p.m. crash in eastern Brazos County left at one male dead, the Department of Public Safety said. At least one other person was injured in the wreck on Texas 30 near Bird Pond Road, but more details were not immediately available.

Earlier Saturday, a Texas A&M student died when his pickup drifted into oncoming traffic and collided with another truck in Burleson County, DPS troopers said.

James Todd Martin, 24, of Corpus Christi was driving a 2000 Ford truck east on F.M. 60, just east of Snook, at about 11 a.m.

His pickup drifted into the westbound lane and struck a 2003 Dodge truck towing a trailer, according to a DPS report.

Martin died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, accident investigators said.

The driver of the Dodge, Robert Miller of Richmond, was not injured.

I've looked long and hard for a rock-solid definition of "Aggie Spirit." The kind of description that breaks the bonds of "From the outside looking in, you can't understand it and from the inside looking out, you can't explain it." I've seen it in the faces of Aggies building Bonfire, I've heard it at midnight yell, and I've felt it in my heart; but I have failed like many others to describe it. They say "But there's a spirit can ne'er be told..."

...Well, Last Fall, I found it. I found the perfect description of Aggie Spirit and his name was Todd. He had heart, drive, sense, ethics, desire....

... and he was "Spirit."

He would still be working, shapening chain blades and oiling chainsaws after the syrup they call "end of shift" was long gone. He loved Bonfire, like we all do. He knew it was about loving the work and working because he loved it. If I thought I had worked hard enough or knew more than anyone out there, I would just look at Todd and I would be put in my place.

I'll miss you, Todd. We all will miss you. Come next fall, Bonfire will miss you. Look for a shiny spot near College Station around mid-November and you will see us displaying the Spirit that you were.

I plan on going to Corpus Thursday and I'll be back Thursday night because I have work Friday. Anyone need a ride with me? I have an open seat.

I would like to thank everyone for their love and support at this time. Everything everyone has said has been so true. That is why he loved Bonfire. He loved it because it was outside working hard and meeting new people and just having a good time. Todd was a special type of person that is deeply missed. If anyone is needing a ride to Corpus some people such as Precious and Sarah (his sister) are meeting at my house and taking people and traveling together. There will be other people driving meeting here to go so there will be plenty of open seats. If you want or need directions to my house just call Ram or ask on here.

Give me a call when you are passing through Victoria. Slim jim knows who I am. I just want to make sure that y'all are safe on the way down. I don't need to explain why.

I propose we find a tree in Corpus and go Levi on it. That was one of the most cathartic moments of my life.

I'm going to start calling around Corpus for a donor.

Burger Ram has a ranch not too far from Corpus, maybe an hour or so, and he said he kinda wanted to take people out there afterwards and spend the night and hang out and what not. Talk to Ram and see if there is a tree on his land to cut down if he doesn't mind or would want to.

Well heck we can go to my ranch if Ram doesn't have a tree to sacrifice, its about a 45 minute drive from town. And I think I could find an axe or two.
