can i just show up? i've never done it before but i'd like to come up from houston and join in.

Show up with your driver's license. You'll have to fill out some papers and go to cut class, but that's standard. Just make sure you bring a pot and wear boots or you won't be admitted.

Also, bringing a gallon of water and a lunch would probably be good.

It starts at 7am. I'd get there a little early since you have to do paperwork. Also, the cut card is $5 and that covers your admission to burn, too. The site is out near Carlos, but I don't know exactly where yet. Directions should be up on the site soon.

Are Y'all meeting up at Albertsons beforehand or are we supposed to go out there all by ourselves

onearmy - you can come straight out there. When you get there, a Brown will administer a cut class to you. It's basic safety info you need to know along with instructions on the correct way to swing an ax.

No, that time hasn't changed. We're expecting a lot of folks who haven't done their paperwork to be out there Saturday, which is why we're leaving so early. I'm told that from town it only takes about 20 minutes to site. I don't know if that's at opie-speed or NSG speed, though.

I'd heard tell that there might be dead woods this year. Just talk to the browns when you get there. Woods won't be hard to find.

phew...my roommate told me that if you didnt go to cut class last week that you couldnt participate at all, and I was going to be sorely dissapointed. Do you have to go to cut class if you went last year (not that I would mind going again, i remember it wasnt that bad a tall)

Cut classes are mandatory before anyone can step into the woods on a crew. There's some new policies and it's important to communicate that.

There will be one on Saturday, but if you can make it tonight, that would be the best so that you can get straight to work on Saturday afternoon instead of spend extra time in a cut class.

As I recall it was the HOGS who finished CT woods last year and gave their fish cut class.

Anyone want to give me directions from Houston? I don't want to go to CS and then go backwards.

Will, I would say take 290 up to Hempstead and take HWY 6 to Navasota. From there take 90 North until you intersect 30. Take a left on 30 and cut will be about 1.7 miles on the right BEFORE Carlos.


Or if you are more in North Houston and I-45 is a lot easier to get to, take 45 to Huntsville and then take 30 East until about 1.7 miles on the right, before Carlos.

Personally I think the first way is gonna be shorter.
