I remember the Bonfire channel as well, it was sweet. In fact it is the Bonfire channel that recorded the falling of Bonfire in '94 and the rebuild. Where is that footage of '99?
Don't get too excited yet. Given the current infrastructure, it for sure won't be a live feed. There's still some things in the air on this so, patience grasshopper.
Its funny, you'd think this question would be asked a whole lot more. I've heard several 'answers' to this question, but in the end, I suspect if the video does exist it will never be seen again.
The '94 timelapse video was from a webcam that took still shots every few minutes.
The Bonfire channel on the campus cable network was not recorded. No footage of the collapse exists.
I actually had the TV on that station in my dorm room when the collapse happened, though I wasn't actively watching it. I was finishing up some work on my PC before heading out to stack. If DVR's were around then, I'm sure several copies of the collapse would exist.
Wasn't it just coincidence that '94 had the still shot time lapse taken?
Did they do this for any other fires?
edit, because I was too quick on the trigger...
Would there be as many advertising and sponsorship benifits of a time lapse video of Bonfire 2006 as I think there would? You know, allowing the presentation given by the reds to potential sponsors to inclde a 1-2 minute video from centerpole rasing to coals.

the web was very much a novelty in '94, and the webcam that was set up kept an archive of the pictures.
As I recall, there were webcams in subsequent years that also kept archives. It's just that the picture quality at night was poor and images were only archived every few minutes.
