This whole semester in my English class, we've been working on this huge reaserch/report project. Me, being involved in student bonfire, and thinking of nothing else interesting to do my project on, did my report on Bonfire and what we can change if it was ever brought back to campus. It took me a whole hour to read the Commission Report that they released back in 2002 about the collapse and why it collapsed. But, I didnt find much information about why no one can give us a decent answer as to why they wont bring it back, I'm guessing because of the liability issues and the lawsuits, but its been EIGHT FRIKIN YEARS!!! No offense, but seriously, its been 8 years.... its ridiculous.

Anyways, after finishing my report, and reading through many of these topics on here about Bonfire and how it was so great and how the University is changing everything and how male dorms are going female and coed and what not, I'm just wondering.... Why hasnt anyone done anything about it?! I mean, I'm one to blame too, but we can't just keep posting our thoughts about it and feeling so sad about how the University is evolving into some Frat infested place, we should do something about it.

I know there are people who think it is better just to leave it off campus and not have the university involved, but, in reality, i believe that is what is killing the tradition. Im not sure about the numbers of memebers we've had each year in student bonfire, but it seems to me that its going down.

Does anyone feel the way I feel? or am I simply crazy?

With Gates gone, and a new prez coming in, maybe we can get something started? Theres nothing to lose if we just try?

Actually Emily, the membership numbers increase every year. This doesn't mean that everybody that attends a cut class or pays dues comes out every weekend, but on average we have at least 250 people out at every cut. The men and women involved in the on campus bonfire (involved...that is equivalent to what we consider "membership" ) was about 5% of the student population, if I remember correctly. With a student community of around 45,000 people, 5% is 2250. Our membership was over 1000 this year, and each year with more publicity and more word of mouth, our members grow. Our attendance at Burn also increases every year.

You stated the issue, litigation. (Ok, so I wrote a lot over a long time trying to describe the situation and potential legal repercussions, but I think it is best handled like this.)

In short, it's still pending. If you (the university) do or say anything regarding its continuance and you run the risk of losing it forever.

In the long, cue/ask DualAg, kip95, opie03, Keegan99, and others.

(If a member could bring up one of the old Litigation Status threads, this guy might get a better idea.)

You're not crazy, Emily. Or, at least you're not the only one who thinks that way. I'm with ya.

We are doing something. We are keeping the tradition alive.
