I had planned on going out that night but had to study for a math test the next day so stayed in the dorm (Schuhmacher). I remember hearing all the sirens and wondering what the hell was going on and was then woken up and told that Bonfire had fallen. We all ran out there and stayed out there all night.

i wasn't there when it fell, but i was camping out for tickets to the game w/my brothers & i was there about 10 minutes after, the dust was still settling. i just remeber thinking that my brother's outfit should be out there & luckily they weren't, but my brother still lost a friend. what a horrible night.

I was asleep and got a call at 2:45 am. My roommate was a paramedic. Our dorm (McInnis) switched with FHK and Walton for shift. We sprinted to the site and were there by 2:55 am. We got to move a few logs then they made every move back behind a perimeter.

I was camping out as well. We woke to an ambulance asking for anyone red cross cpr certified and they drove us over about 10 min after it fell.

One who passed was a friend, another the fiancée of my lab partner. I'll never forget Scott. He was an amazing guy.

Here.

Every time I read Texags and come across some of you snivelling, tradition hating ladies, I lose a little more hope for A&M. Some of you candy-asses clearly got lost on the way to Austin, Lubbock or Waco. Please buy a map and leave. - Buck Turgidson

I was camping for tickets with my roommates. we woke up when someone came through saying the stack had fell, and they needed people who were trained in first aid. my roommate and i were lifeguards, so we sprinted over there but it was after police had already put up a perimeter.

my roomy and i almost went to work that night, but didnt because i had an assignment due the next day and had to finish. and then to hear the stack fell...

I was in Dunn Hall with my suitemates and roommate and we were watching the Bonfire channel (like channel 83 or something) and studying.

If you weren't familiar with the Bonfire channel, it was a channel run from KAMU in the dorms from a video camera that appeared to be on top of the O&M building or something. It just ran 24/7. At night time there were so many lights around that you could always see the stack and the people working on it.

After it fell, obviously the lights got knocked out so on the tv everything was dark. Then we realized what happened and ran out there.

Such a sad and tragic day

The Bonfire channel was on regular cable all over town...FWIW

I was living across the street at the University Tower at the time. I woke up with a strange feeling in my stomache. I looked out the back window, and all I could see were lights flashing. I wasn't the same since.

I was truly amazed at the support from t.u. fans with the vigil they held. Then, I happened to stand with about 10 sips at the vigil on our campus that week. Although the rivalry is alive, I gained a lot of respect for some of them that day.

I skipped that night at stack due to an engineering exam. My dorm had the early shift, and it was only one of about 3 events that I missed during the build. My RA woke me up after it fell and I ran out there as fast as I could...

one if the eeriest things that night before it happened: on my way back to my dorm from the civil eng. building all of the glass lights around blocker were smashed and it was almost totally dark.

I was a dead zip then so I didn't participate on bonfire like I did my first 4 years.

I was suppose to be there that night to help Sq 12, but in the last minute 12 and 16 switch spots.

I always remember that fact that had they kept to their original schedule, i would have lost more friends then I did. FYI, Christopher Breen '97 was Sq 12 really dead zip and he was there that night because we didn't get the message to him about changing the schedule.

So that night I was asleep and got 20 phones call from fomer Talons guys asking me who was out there tonight.. and me telling them to stfu because it as 3am and I thought they were full of ..manure. I went back to sleep. I thought they were playing a bad joke. Then my mom called me at 730am. I was stunned when I accepted that it really happen.

Ambres,

Chris is a Brownpot and was at the fields to meet the baby browns that night. There is no reason to think a message from the outfit would have kept him away.

I have a very different story about that day. I was born and raised in B/CS I was in 7th grade that year ( yea I know young) I remember hearing sirens what seemed to be all night. My mom has worked at A&M for years and she got a call from a co-worker early that morning. When we woke up she told us, and we went to school. In first period, my teacher’s husband worked for BFD and she was glued to the radio and phone talking to her husband. I left school that day and I remember driving from my school, that was on 2818, and going home that was across town. Not even to this day, not even on 9-11 do I remember B/CS looking so empty. All the roads I mean just everything. When we got home we turned on the news and it was unreal seeing an area that I have seen all me life on TV, being called a “disaster” and a “small town catastrophe.” No I am not an aggie student or helped build a stack or anything. I was just a local kid that grew up going to Bonfire. The year before I remember going and being told by what I think was an senior cadet jokingly telling me and a friend to do push ups for walking on a particular part of the grass (not at the MSC) not sure what we did. Then the next year it collapsed and life in aggieland just stopped that day.
