It's late or early and I have been thinking about how man worships God.
I'm sure ancient man had as elaborate forms of worship that more than likely involved copious amounts of incense and the occasional dinging of bells. We know Aaron was able to fashion a calf of gold, so we can imagine certain visuals to assist man with devotion.
What interests me is how Jesus handled the very first Eucharistic celebration in the upper room. It would seem that it did not have the level of decorum nor any mention of Jesus walking around the table with a censor blessing it before the meal.
Again, I understand the need to engage man at the sensory level. As an architect I can appreciate the construction of great places of worship. I'm just struck by the words of Jesus about tearing it down as if it is not the point of worship- because it is deeper than what we can see, hear, and smell.
Just a thought.
