I'd be interested to hear what this board has to say about this interview. Apparently James is a pastor. I'm 35 minutes in and he has some different interpretations of how Christians should or can view topics like homosexual relationships, abortion, etc.

Have been curious as well. He came off as very smart and well spoken in some of the house proceedings from earlier in the year. Seemed to me a formidable up and coming politician to remember albeit one I couldn't support.

The Dems are always on the cutting edge of bespoke candidates. They put the loonies in safe districts, and the folksy "moderates" who say the right things in the difficult ones.

They've got Andy Beshear in Kentucky, Shapiro in Penn, and John Bel Edwards in Louisiana a few years ago. We run idjits like Herschel Walker.

Finished it up and the dude is an empty suit who packages relativist anti Christian pabulum into an easy digestible "live and let live" format. Doesn't even really believe what he's saying. When discussing the 10 commandments in schools makes a statement about "how would that make the Jewish students feel" which shows how deeply he's considered this issue.

Only 30 mins in as well as the dude is infuriating. He's and actor and I hope people are able to see past his "I went to seminary" facade. "Christians are taught to hate gays, suppress women's voting rights, reject science..." where did this dude grow up?

"my point is". Said this way too many times.

His alleged theological basis for abortion seems internally inconsistent/hypocritical with his beliefs. 'life begins at first breath' - and then 10 minutes later talking bout all the living organisms in us. This position would support late-term abortion, which he appears to be against. Ignores that the fetus gets oxygen from the mother. Same with 'consent' (ignoring that a woman consents to have sex - he is not talking about this in the rape context) - that would also support late-term abortion, which he appears to be against. So he apparently disagrees with his supposed theological basis for abortion.

Some points he made some sense, even if there is room for disagreement (10 commandments in classroom; founding fathers idea of government not dictating religion)

His thoughts about religion *******izing things has some truth to it. Agree that Love God, Love thy Neighbor should be lodestar. Mark 12:31.

Well spoken. seems sincere and genuine. Wolf in sheep clothing vibe; dems will love him (can wrap a lot of bad policies into misinterpreted christian principles). His answers on those topics were the standard out of the box progressive Christianity answers.

I think he wants to get along with everyone so he found an alternative viewpoint to those topics to make Christianity more palpable to modern ears.

Quote:

It is not possible to be a "progressive Christian." It's an oxymoronic belief system that exchanges the God of Scripture for the god of self. See: the "progressive Christian" view of abortion.

The mental gymnastics required to come up with a "Biblical" support for killing unborn babies is a thing to behold. His argument is this:

1) God breathed life into Adam, so life starts at first breath
2) Jesus spent a lot of time with the woman at the well, so clearly he was a feminist
3) God asked for Mary's consent before placing Jesus in her womb

Apparently, all of these passages are secretly about abortion but "You shall not murder" isn't.

Apparently, we should use obscure, fantastical interpretations of Scripture to inform our public policy but should ignore straightforward commandments against murder and the clear fact that God regards unborn life as precious (Psalm 139).

It's a grotesque attempt at justifying brutality against the most vulnerable. Utter blasphemy.

Paraphrased: "Jesus never talked about X,y,z from the Old Testament so it must not be important"

Now paraphrasing Christ: "Not one yode or tittle is removed"

LOL, they will need a much, much better/smarter liar than that to turn Texas blue. That guy makes Robert Francis O'Rourke sound credible.

I only liked this guy because he was fighting hard against school choice. He did so in a very well-spoken way. I haven't deep dived because I know I won't agree with him on many/most things. I do worry about him. Guess we will see what happens.

He went to seminary and thinks Jewish parents and Jewish students would feel weirded out by the OLD TESTAMENT 10 Commandments.
