"US troops report commanders framing Iran war as 'God's plan'"

Who is comfortable with this?

Oh no, the publication that is promoting Oman and Qutar, and calling the attacks barbaric have tried to put a religious slant on it.

Yes, it would be very wrong to pretend this is divine, religious, or anointed. But this is coming from a source that is obviously very against the attack and are trying to sway opinion. The Iranians have attacked any and everyone to try and get them to pressure US and Israel to cease fire. This seems to be a similar attack.

So, put you down in the "this didn't happen" camp.

But if it did, you're also against it?

I said, if it was framed as religious or divine (by command), that would be bad. I also showed the slant that news source has.

I saw a pastor online portray this as some sort of end times, and that was weird. I am sure some military person has also framed this a divine or God's plan. That is dangerous. There are 30+% of the US military that are vehemently anti Trump. I doubt it would be difficult to find someone to frame Trump or chain of command in a bad light.

If Trump or a cabinet member said this is divine or anointed, I will stand right next to you and shout it down.

If an Iranian or Muslim framed this as some sort of religious war or divine, I will also shout that down.

I am not surprised that 100 people in the US military have filed a complaint. I am not surprised that a Qatar/Iranian sympathetic journalist has put out this poorly sourced article.

I have seen numerous interviews and press briefings. I haven't seen any attempt to frame this religiously.

This could be a 'font of misinformation', given the source(s).

FYI, this is the actual original source. The twitter account in the original post was referencing the MRFF's reporting. So noting that The Cradle is biased, even if true, is a bit irrelevant.

Good point. The MRFF has no bias and should be trusted completely.

Nice: Christian nationalism has now entered the chat in the substack. We've hit all the talking points.

Yes, agreed. I originally read about this story on Jonathan Larsen's substack. And it doesn't change my opinion of the matter on who is reporting. Even the MRFF reply goes off in a direction I don't particularly care for. But nevertheless, AggieRain is right. :-)

A couple of thoughts.
God is omniscient and omnipotent. From my reading of the OT, God anointed men like Gideon and Joshua to fulfill His plans.
No man can do anything to hasten the second coming of Christ. That is all under the control of God.

And as a believer, everything is part of God's divine plan. All to the glory of God.

Joshua's armies attacked Jericho and 'utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.'

Does this comparison between Joshua and our political / military leaders not make you uneasy?

A person convinced of their own God granted ordainment is justified in every action.

I fully trust God. And a man truly ordained by God will only do what he is ordained to do.

God will make it all for His glory.

And since you do not believe in God, you obviously do not believe in divine ordination.

Well, Joshua was ordained by Moses. Saul and David were ordained by Samuel. Solomon was ordained by Nathan. Last I heard there weren't any prophets running around that could have ordained Trump to do anything

True enough. But not "just because". There is an actual list of verifiable qualifications to be a prophet. I wrote a short blurb about it here

I hope the Iranians don't have pamphlets. Our Jewish, mohammedan, and atheist troops trained to kill people might not be able to handle mean words or things the disagree with! Oh the cohesion!

Have we gotten past this really serious issue yet?

A commander preaching to his soldiers is a serious issue and absolutely does affect cohesion and morale. That's not their role and should be addressed via UCMJ.

For sake of this thread, I grant that God exists and ordains people to do things.

I'm not questioning whether you should trust God. I'm questioning how much you should trust politicians to not use religious manipulation to get what they want.

I've known a number of outstanding Muslim soldiers. They don't deserve to be treated like trash by people like you and they don't deserve to be preached to by their superiors who have significant power over their careers.

It used to just be the Chaplains hosting bizarre film screenings. The evangelical officers at least had enough sense to minimize their preaching to their soldiers.

Treated like trash? More like I expect this not to impact them because they're trained and know their jobs (killing people, right?), consummate professionals who aren't off put so easily. I don't regard them as so fragile that this shakes their trust, or that they need the white knighting on the R&P forum from the whataboutist squad.
