Thats ALOT of water for coastal Hawai'i.
When I lived in Lihue, I think the whole coast was less than 5ft above sea level until you went inland. That puts the entire hotel zone on the east and all of Hanalei in the North under water.
If think poipu will be protect ed because it faces south. I wouldn't want to be up along any of the rivers. Itll probs Channel up in those Spaces

We were in Maui 10 days ago staying on a beach. Glad we're not there now. It's a nightmare with traffic and people panicking.
The good thing is that it sounds like Hawaii is preparing and running things well in preparation for this Tsunami.
Crazy. I was in Wakiki last week. I've seen live video on TikTok and downtown Honolulu is absolute gridlock as well as the roads leading to the mountains. From what I understand the east side is the most vulernable. I think that area is less populated from what I saw. We spent most of out time on the western part outside of going to Kualoa Ranch.
At least in Hilo you have elevation close. Maui takes AGES to get to higher ground.
Depends on the area. I told my wife if we were there I'd probably go to a higher floor stairway at the resort and watch it come in.
Hitting at high tide doesn't help
We lived 50 meters from the beach but on the 6th floor. I still wouldn't be staying. I'd be heading inland.
Anyone else think the water level is starting to pull back on these Hawai'i cams? Itll pull back alot further. But it should be rising and it looks like it's lower now than 15-20 minutes ago.

I have seen some people live streaming from where we stayed. I have a picture from when we stayed last week and it is definitely noticeable that the water has pulled back signficantly.
Is there any specific area/beach in Hawaii that's expected to take the brunt of the tsunami?

Ali'i Drive in Kona is in the danger zone. They got it good after the Japan quake in 2011.

I'd think anything on the north and west sides of the islands

I think IIRc from living there it's the North and East sides given the location of the source. I think east gets it worst then west because it wraps around.
We were always told in Kauai the worst place to be was Hanalei and Kapaa. Also along the waimea river which empties on the east side because the water will travel up the river. Our evacuation point was the Kapaa Middle school.

Wraparound effect will get the back side of the islands, too.

I was going to say NOLA could defintely take some pointers.
Hilo on the big island is at major risk. Harbor faces north and they've been nailed before
Pipeline beach cam (north side of Oahu). Arrival of first waves forecast around 12:17 am central.
Moving at 500mph…. Think of that inertia.
