Body cam:

an officer entering the living room of the home...brandishing a knife. Officers are heard attempting to de-escalate the situation, repeatedly ordering him to "put the knife down," but Chakraborty continued to move toward the officer, according to the NYPD.

A woman is seen in the footage attempting to block Chakraborty with her arm, but he continued to step forward while carrying the knife. The footage shows the NYPD officer repositioning himself in the home's vestibule and closing the door between himself and the living room.

According to the NYPD, Chakraborty then pushed through the door and stepped toward the officer with the knife.

The officer discharged his weapon, hitting Chakraborty four times. He was taken to the hospital, where he remains in intensive care in stable but critical condition.

Mamdani calls for no criminal charges

My take - This dude belongs in prison for a long time, and it is likely the next time it will be his wife or neighbor he attacks.

I think some leftists are functionally brain defective in that their Empathy for percieved victims is incredibly distorted such that they are detached from reality.

Putting this guy in prison doesn't seriously harm him. It doesn't oppress him and it isn't bigotry. It very likely could save his life. He will have access to mental health evaluation and treatment. He will be protected from himself, and others will be protected from him. If he is in prison for a time, he won't do another violent crime that very well may put him in prison even longer or result in his death. Sometimes sociopathic persons have to be saved from their own lack of impulse control by confinement, and others are protected at the same time.

If there is a right and a wrong side to an issue, just like the Democrat Party, Mandami is going to be on the wrong side.

They truly want chaos to create anxiety and frustration to the point that the public will accept any level of control just to make it stop. Cloward-Piven right before our eyes.

It is well past time to put the wall up around that cesspool, Escape From New York style. Mine the water ways and bridges. They voted for this, let them live in it.

The Left wanted body cams. They got body cams. And it's destroying their idiotic narratives on policing.

Good post. There is nothing compassionate about enabling criminal behavior by sparing a person of consequences.

Note: I'm not trying to excuse the guy with the knife. I think the policeman had no choice.

The guy with the knife has a long history of schizophrenia. His family has dealt with it for years. They finally called for help, assuming the help would be mental health workers, not police.

Mamdani ran on a platform of using mental health responders instead of police in cases such as this. So he is trying to make sure that everyone who voted for him understands that HE is not to blame because his policy was not followed.

Mamdani is just as delusional as the guy with the knife.

I don't understand how this is the Mayor's call. Why does it matter what he thinks? Is law enforcement and/or the courts taking his opinion into account on this?

Decisions like this are just going to incentivize LEOs in NYC to make sure the assailant doesn't make it to the hospital.

Wow. Just last week I learned that it is allowed to shoot, stab and/or run over ICE/Border Patrol Agents. Now this week it is allowed to stab Law Enforcement/Police Officers.

Liberal world is moving to fast and not going in the direction I want to go.

The Mayor has (some) control over the Police Chief and New York City Criminal Court.

The Mayor does not have control over the DA's office as that is appointed by the State.

But this is the goal

They want to demoralize the force and have them quit on mass. Defunding isn't enough. They want no police at all. The mass anarchy that will follow will destroy the city just as he was put in place to do

I'm sure it's a combo of family legacy and crazy pay/benefits that keep some guys in there.

Good point. Snake did manage to get across a mined bridge with that president.

I swam next to a retired SAPD officer today, he is in couple of times a week training for triathlons and we usually swim in adjacent lanes.

His comment - "In Texas there is no duty to retreat. Leaving people in the room where they could be attacked is not the way this should be handled."

One good thing about SA, despite being a pretty blue city, the cops tend to be fairly conservative.

I thought it was pretty insightful, so passing it along.

Antifa is just a catchy brand name for communist irregular partisan forces. They aren't really for anarchy.

If a mental health person had shown up first then the story would be police shoots knife wielding man after he murdered mental health first responder….

Idiots. Truly remarkable and sad that such a person could become mayor of NYC.

In the context of immigration…. Very few native Americans and true New Yorkers voted for him. That is a prime example of the problems and results of immigration, multiculturalism and "diversity". People need to wake the F up!!!

Lots of New York cops coming to Texas for work. Dudes are happy to be able to actually throw hands with criminals and not second guess their arrest.

Well, when this sack of **** stabs a random person on the subway, at least leftists have practice in completely ignoring it and/or just deflecting by saying he was "mentally ill".

Not ell sociopathic behavior justifies death. Most criminals do age out of criminal behavior as they hit their 50's and realize they are getting weaker, slower, and more mortal and their T levels drop.

Well, this is one way for Mandami to lose the support and trust of the police department.
