I saw a documentary on the Dark Ages in Europe and the Gulf Stream being cut off in the North Atlantic and not reaching the western areas of European shoreline was that cause. When the pattern changed and the stream was restored, the Renaissance happened with moderate temperatures sunshine and food production boomed.

So there is some logic there. But any real proof the Gulf Stream is being changed that much?

the video is actually pretty interesting. they have data showing the Gulfstream is moving.(satellite and oceanographic instrument) My issue is it is another "model based" prediction. And there is not a super long amount of this data. So my antennae immediately started twitching. of course the man on the screen started talking about humans not taking these situations seriously so my opinion is this is the seeds of the next hysteria that people will be gluing themselves to streets and blocking traffic about.

If you look at the Vostok Ice Core data, historically we're pretty close to the point at which this current glaciation period ends (We're currently still in the Cenozoic Ice Age)...

So, this could be that happening...

Thank you but last I checked, Italy is not surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. Med is a shallower sea and always stays warmer.

You have the sequence jumbled. It was when temperatures warmed in Europe that Agriculture boomed. Acres of wheat, rather than potatoes. Total food per acre went way up.

Once the people were not having to work 24/7/365 to eat, they began to have leisure time and extra money to buy goods. Artist could make art instead of digging potatoes.

Of course the Church of the time (government) demanded higher tithes (taxes) and this bounty resulted in the great cathedrals of Europe being built.
