Any of you fellow nerds into RC cars? I've been thinking about getting one of those Traxxas ones that hauls ass. They vary in price quite a bit. I'm not even sure how quickly I'll grow bored of it but they look like a good time.

I have a Traxxis in the shed that has only been used a few times. Welcome to have it on the cheap. Probably needs new batteries.

It was fun the few times I used it to let the dogs chase it.

For a slightly more affordable alternative to Traxxas check out Redcat Racing. I have the Blackout SC and it is a blast to drive. Plus almost everything is replaceable for when you inevitably drive straight into a wall or curb at full speed..

I've had it for probably 3 or 4 years now and it still gets used once a month or more. My daughter has a kids rc car and loves to get out and drive them together, so that is helpful in using it regularly.

Street or off road?
Gas or electric?

Looking at off-road and electric so my neighbors don't go insane.

Traxxas is pretty good. Check out Arrma also. I like their cars. Many you can upgrade to 3S or 4S without having to change gearing.

Before spending a lot of money, look at a few cheap options on Amazon. I bought some Chinese POS RC car for like 100 bucks. No decked out suspension but it's a 4wd stadium truck and it is a ton of fun. I've had it for a couple years and it still runs strong.

Just got a Losi mini truck for ~100 bucks since they were discontinuing the brushed motor model. It's a blast for what it is. I now want one of the bigger traxxas rc cars but you need some space to run those.

Google and see if there are any local RC race tracks near you, especially off-road ones. Used to do this back before kids got older and into lots of activities, and then we moved overseas. Was always a blast and usually people at the track are very helpful and friendly. If there is a track there is usually a hobby shop associated with it, it may cost more but buy from and support them. Added bonus if you run what they sell is they will have the spare parts. Used to race 1/10 SCT and then 1/8 buggies, both electric. Was a fun way to spend a Friday evening going to the track by my house, hanging out with the other regulars.

I'm affiliated with a RC flight club in the DFW area where several members also have RC cars.

Some of the Traxxas gas models are REALLY LOUD (much noisier than my gas push mower).

I tried it out today. Holy **** it's fast. I put it on training mode which is 50% speed until I get used to it.

They will scoot on you. Takes a little to learn the speed and what you can and can't do with it. Sent my slash rolling many times

Used to race electric 1/8th buggy. Also had a traxxas emax and slash, as well as others. Definitely can be fun. The electric based RC vehicles today are leaps better than the emax and original slash.

Probably not alone in asking for video. I think rule 1 may require in-use pics since you mentioned training mode. Respectfully of course.

That looks fun not in motion. Can't imagine in motion.

This thread has me thinking about taking a section of my backyard that is heavily wooded with a decent amount of brush, to clearing out the brush and making a nice track.

Fortunately, summer has finally hit and there is no way in the little free time I get that I'll be out there clearing brush when it's 100F or higher. Then, I looked at the price of the vehicles, and decided if I really wanted to clear brush to spend that much money.

The truck I got was roughly $800. I know that sounds high but it's wild how fast it goes and cruises over anything. It's a heck of a lot of fun to drive.
