So it's both a stand-alone phone and a "companion" device to be used with your real phone? At $500, I would think a cheaper (~$200) companion-only device would sell much better.

They are offering a $100 discount but if you want the companion phone to really work as a phone you need another line of course. I like the touch keyboard case that attaches to your existing phone but I have a Samsung S25 Ultra and they don't make one for my phone type. However the clicks power keyboard will work with the Samsung s25 ultra.

They have add-ons for iphone and pixel already, you can see them at Best Buy stores.

Yesterday they debuted the add-on keyboard for any phone as well as the Communicator stand alone phone.

They've marketed the Communicator it as a companion phone (mistakenly in my opinion). It should function perfectly well as an everyday phone as it's designed for the people who don't care about 90% of the useless upgrades each new iPhone or Galaxy iteration has.

That's interesting. All I do on my phone is talk, text, email, financial stuff (bank and credit cards) and a few stock trades here and there. And TexAgs. Think I'd basically have to give up TexAgs if that was my primary phone since that's essentially my version of doomscrolling. Hmmm…

I think it's still a perfectly capable phone for web browsing, has a touchscreen, etc... - I think you'd probably find something like TexAgs even works better "tabbing" through each topic and arrowing down rather than scrolling with your finger.

I could be wrong on that, but seems like it's designed to be more functional than "slick".

You might be right. Quite frankly part of that post was me looking for an excuse to spend less time here.

The Keyone was still my favorite phone ever.

this thing is pretty cool! I've been trying to cut screen time and have looked at dumbphones and alternative phones like LightPhone over the years. Tried a Mudita Pure and a Unihertz Jelly Star, but all had pretty big flaws. The Pure could not multitask, and you had to disable some root security features in MacOS to enable tethering and the Jelly still had too many features even on its tiny screen. I want to basically have no web browser or social media, but still want to have access to online chat apps like Signal/Whatsapp/etc. and music streaming.

no google services or google app store, runs a modified version of the open source F-droid store. slightly less than 3 in screen, modular keypads (the ipod looking one isnt a scroll wheel unforuntately, just buttons). it has some compromises, but its in a good wheelhouse for me and what i want. Will be able to have the things i want and can easily uninstall the browser. iPhone still goes with me for work stuff, but it stays in my bag for when i need to use it and then it goes back in. First run ships in the next few weeks and im hoping it'll help me in accomplishing my goals.
