Bourbon!!!!!!

Spotting a big trout consistently eating midge cluster then making a plan to catch him! We pick a fly, and start making accurate casts. The moment we finally time a perfect cast with his feeding cycle and you see the fish lock onto the fly! That's the moment I know we will get an eat!

What happens next… who knows. Sometimes we catch him and sometimes the angler sets the hook too early. But that moment the fish locks onto the fly…. That's when I get Irrationally happy!

1. Cracking open a cold beer after a 2.5 hour drive as soon as I pull in and shut my ranch gate behind me
2. Seeing a buck you left go last year be bigger this year
3. Cruising down the intercoastal with a perfect plane on the boat
4. Having my wife in the deer blind with me
5. Watching my son have success when hunting or fishing

Summer being over. Cooler weather, football, and hunting season beginning.

Anytime I roll through Gonzales or Goliad thinking about our proud Texas heritage. And of course that little stretch of road between Yorktown and smiley on the way to our little farm. It has a hill country feel to it.

Opening day in a duck blind - the 5 minutes right before shooting time.

Grandkids 4,6, & 8 spilling out of the minivan yelling our names and running as fast as they can to give us a hug.

Watching a newborn calf nursing her cow for the first time. Never got tired of seeing that.

Hearing it crack when cutting a ripe watermelon, knowing it probably gonna be a good one.
Always made me smile.

My favorite fruit, a tree-ripe soft Asian persimmon, knowing you can't buy one, gotta grow it yourself.

Walking through the woods when it's cold and drizzly if I've got the right jacket and boots. Bonus points if my dog is with me.

This. First cold day in the fall. Always cook chili to celebrate.

Watching someone come up from the water after being baptized.

Same here, especially in the last hour of the day. Hearing the grass rip as they're grazing, tails swishing, cow is content.
Little calves bumping around their mama's bag while she's grazing or just butting heads.
Absolutely a satisfying experience.
