8,000 is getting pretty high up there for the species of rattlesnake that live in the central US. I over there once you start getting up into the pines they fizzle out.
Need a little help on this one. Was down at a ranch in Zapata County with a buddy and ran across this little guy.

The vertical one was my 4th, and elusive
I got bit 6 times before I finally found the 4th.
I count 4 as well, but have this nagging feeling I'm overlooking a 5th one.
Snake guy I know from TPWD thinks he is seeing the head of one in the leaves in the bottom left. I could convince myself there might be one under those leaves if I squint hard enough. His comment was "That is the one that will bite you while you are looking at the others."
Found 4 pretty quickly and if there are anymore, especially in the leaves, it would get me.

So what's the deal with copperheads? What is their temperament? I remember watching a show a long time ago where a guy was using a fake leg to "stand" on one and the snake just sat there and finally went away.

One of our dogs stepped on one and got bit. Snake didn't like getting stepped on.

Most of the once's I've dealt with were mostly laid back and chill. If they are surprised, they are a bit more grumpy. But, for the most part, they are chill.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Ask MouthBQ98 or whatever his name is. He has a ton on his property. We have a decent amount on our property and did in a lot next to us growing up, as mentioned they are mostly tame until they get startled
Rat snake (I think?) at memorial park today. Immediately thought it was a PBWS but the head shape and color pattern on the back has me thinking otherwise.

Not proud to have to do it, but when my small dog finds it right beside the house, im not leaving things to chance.

Man it was just so intense. I'm not a super emotional guy but I've probably done a decades worth of crying for me in the last two days .

Well, apparently this poor fella (YBS?) got into a serious territory dispute with our dog and lost...
Maybe… a lot of red/yellow on the head would make me think it's a Broad Band Water Snake but not entirely sure. Have anymore pics?
Unfortunately it must have been a serious argument, cause Rocko didn't leave much else...but a lot of stink..
