I would say no. Chloe Childress was confirmed to family and friends yesterday but not made public until today.

Absolutely. And Jeb had a great time. It is what it is.Make the best of it.

And I do not think it is a "bear" I am poking. I am poking insecurity.
C'mon Derm! Don't poke anything right now. We want you here so we can support and hopefully rejoice with you. I understand the frustration but don't jeopardize what you are getting here.

I bit my tongue so hard it is bleeding. The lack of awareness of the situation personally is not unexpected but alarming.
I am a veterinarian. I can get you some silver nitrate sticks if I need to.

Those things suck. No thanks.

I think they were just pointing out news confirmation of identified recovered bodies. Still no detailed information or confirmation (or denial) of girls found in tree alive.

I'm not sure why and I feel horrible even saying this, but for some reason reading about the confirmed death of a counselor just hit me hard. Most likely a young college student spreading The Word and working hard. . Maybe because my oldest goes to college next year, I don't know.

Dogs can do amazing things. However, my dogs would be less than useless in this situation. Even more pathetic is I have a full blooded coon hound. They are spoiled due to my parenting, but they are sweet. Just trying to lighten the mood.
Please don't take this post as not taking the situation seriously. I left Hunt early yesterday morning and was absolutely stunned with the devastation.

All this hits hard. It is truly horrific. I do not know how many camps anyone has been on with kids but this is where you feel the safest and have the most fun.

It is maybe the worst thing I could imagine.

It's the social media telephone game. Enough people share something trying to be first that it can end up looking like "multiple sources."

The origin could have been somebody just mixing up stories from yesterday.

*and I just saw it shared again on FB.

I just got off of the phone with a client who had two little girls at Mystic. By the Grace of God, both are safe. His younger daughter was in one of the cabins next to Bubble (forget the name but it started with a C). He said some of the counselors were going cabin to cabin banging on the doors to get everyone to wake up. Everybody had been instructed though to stay put in the case of an emergency. However, the 17 year old counselor in the C cabin saw that they were about to drown and used her car keys to break the window and get all 15 girls out in the dead of night. They all had to swim about 100 yards to get to a non-flooded area, but then eventually had to hike even further up again barefoot in cactus and brush, pitch black to higher ground. She said that while they were climbing, they could see other campers in Bubble floating out on mattresses. They waited there until 11 am until they were finally rescued. The C cabin and the Bubble cabin were next to each other and the same elevation, but the only difference was that the C cabin counselor made the decision to break the window and lead them out before it was too late. So many heroes and so much bravery. She said that most of the girls were unaware of the danger and saying things like "I have to grab my retainer" but the counselor just forced everyone out before it flooded.

I'm not a huge fan of her or CNN. But they're doing an amazing job covering this. And she seemed genuinely upset at what she's seeing.

CNN remains the standard for covering breaking news.

But CNN still sucks.

I was afraid of this. Never should have run with it based on second/third hand sources. All the reporting pointed back to one article without any names of witnesses or people in it. Everyone involved should have been more discerning than to pass it on.

But ultimately it's a minor thing compared to the realities of the situation.

I doubt it was made up. All the info out there is a game of telephone. Two people tell him it's true, it's "confirmed." Everyone wants to be the first to spread the news. The guy on FB Live mentioned it. He heard it from someone, or misunderstood it from someone depending on where in the telephone chain he was.

Everyone is so eager to give and receive information. Unfortunately, in this case, it's not all correct.

I noticed yesterday that many people were confusing "found" with "found alive". A bad game of telephone gets going from the site via social media and all it causes is heart ache. If they didn't have confirmation from at least one government official, that's on them for running with the story in the first place.

Same thing here. I have done my share of camp drop offs and pickups. My girl was a camper but she is in her 30's now.

The one that hit me hard was the guy who got the call from his older daughter at 4AM who was camping on the river somewhere with friends. He hears the situation but then the line goes dead. It is the guy in the purple shirt you see in the videos just combing the banks looking for her.

I cannot rid my mind of this particular terror.

Dear Heavenly Father, please wrap everyone impacted by these terrible floods in your loving arms. Please ensure a swift and safe rescue for all of the missing people. Grant everyone impacted by this and their families strength and comfort as their lives have been turned upside down. Please watch over everyone who is involved in the ongoing rescue operations and keep them safe and make their rescue efforts fruitful. All this I ask in Jesus' name, Amen

Yep. We've seen it happen in this thread where different info is getting mixed together/combined into 1, ie, Glenn and the USCG guy. All takes is one person with assumed authority to mix things up and suddenly a story develops. Heck posters on here were siting LE Officers as confirming the story. That person probably just mixed up facts and it was assumed they know bc of their title.

I think it was fed in part by the 'we found two girls in a tree and they told us where to look', with another source saying they had found four bodies, then shortly thereafter they found six.

I suspect them finding two and then looking around and finding another four, kind of a now we know where roughly to look let's look around here type thing.
