Made an offshore run Sunday 55 nm out of Freeport after making the call to cancel Saturday due to weather. Got our snapper limit including a couple of nice sows at 30" each. Also found a bonus scamp grouper and a nice cobia to add a little color to the box. Son got a hook in his hand from a snapper flopping on the deck. I cut off the barb with bolt cutters (don't forget them!) and pulled it out. Luckily he had a recent tetanus shot. He was alright after a beer and wanted to keep fishing but it was getting late so I decided to head north and put the boat back on the trailer. Good times with the family!

Dang nice snapper for this time of year. All the Freeport reports I've been hearing are that things are picked clean out to 65+ miles.

At least the barb passed back through. Would have been hard to push through.

We're looking at maybe doing Matagorda next Monday or Tuesday for AJs and grouper. Forecast looks really iffy for now.

That was after I pushed it through, just the point was showing. Tough kid. Could do Monday but gotta work Tuesday.

I haven't found any good weed lines or rips this summer. We didn't try for kingfish, but there were likely a few around, we lost a number of jigs and they probably were not all sharks.

The ling makes a good day into a great day! We went out Saturday and managed to box a 4 man limit of snapper about 45 NM out of Freeport. A few decent ones but nothing super impressive. We had to slow play it due to the weather which didn't leave a lot of time for fishing for fun stuff. We did see one good rip on the way out but didn't fish it. Very little sargassum much less weed lines. On the way in, there were two marine weather warnings. One from Freeport to the east and one a little west. There wasn't any weather in the area and didn't see anything eminent so I thought it was odd. Regardless, having navigated through a severe storm front a couple of years ago, we were not taking chances and headed the warnings.

Headed back out there Monday for another snapper limit approximately 50 miles offshore. Biggest was 31". Had to dodge a few rainstorms, but HD color radar helps with that. No additional species this trip for the box but the boat ran great and nobody got a hook in their hand this time.

It was a thread like this that had me buy a pair of bolt cutters and vacuum seal them for my emergency kit. (Along with a bottle of lidocaine and a syringe). Hope I never use them, but glad to know they are there.

Yes Lowes sells a set of 8" bolt cutters for like $22. Spray w Corrosion X and vacuum seal. If you ever use them spray again and vacuum seal.

We ended up going out of Matagorda Thursday looking for AJs. Found some at the old Falcon rig but couldnt get them away from the 8-10ft sharks. Tried deep dropping edges of the East Breaks but not a bite. Ive never fished it but was surprised we couldnt even get a tile fish. Did get some limits of nice snapper in 350ft while looking for AJs. The 47 reef is loaded with 14-20" snapper if anyone is looking for an easy trip before it closes.

I do fish Salvadore pretty often but there was a storm sitting on top of on Labor Day, so I headed to the 27's
