Well, I would open the boxes and see what there is as a first step. Post some pics and I and others that reload can give you a better idea.

I see Dillon blue though off the bat so there is quality at first already.

Generally speaking, reloading is a whole other endeavor to shooting. It can be quite the rabbit hole and hobby all its own. There are times I honestly wonder if I enjoy reloading more than "unloading".

Honestly, you have to just ask yourself if you want to go down that path. It's a lot of fun….to some people. If you like tinkering and have an analytical mind and "doing things yourself", and a fair amount of free time, it's great. If not, maybe just look to sell it.

I will say one of the big reasons why people get into it is the myth of saving money. Ammo prices ebb and flow and as of right now, it is really hard to break even on reloading costs unless doing some drastic measures like casting your bullets. Really the savings come from how you source your brass. Free range pickup? You can reload cheaper than buying. But you have to process the brass which takes time and equipment. And it's not that much of a savings. Have to buy your brass? Forget it. You aren't beating off the shelf. All of this is for the common calibers btw. Oddballs and some self defense reloading can still make sense in terms of cost. Most of the time though, and pretty much as of right now, it's a fallacy generally speaking.

You might not save much by reloading but you'll probably shoot a lot more. That's been the case for me.

Do you have a friend who reloads? I'll bet he would be happy to come over and look through the boxes with you and help you get set up. I would think it would be fun.

Aye. And I guess I forgot something important. He already has a great head start. Which is getting the equipment for free.

And primer prices are still coming down slooooowly.

You can always start with a single cartridge type, to learn the process.
But first ya gotta see what equipment is in those boxes! Almost like Christmas..

I'm 50+ yrs into reloading, rifle, handgun, and shotshell... I've already covered (most) of my equipment and component investment. The "shoot more, not save (much) money" logic is sound, plus some very accurate loads, plus allowing wildcat chambering and loads.

Step 1: be sure you know if there's any gunpowder in there.

Dillon is the best progressive reloader there is. Dillon is also great to work with. Box it up and send it to them and they will go through everything and adjust it and send it back to you. There may be a charge if something is broken but well worth it to have a professional go through it before you start.

Progressive really isn't my thing I like loading them one at a time for rifle. But I have heard several people say they sent them back to Dillon to go over even when acquired used.

Some people really don't like changing calibers and finagling in a new setup every time essentially. Dillon has swappable toolheads which really helps a lot but some don't even want to bother with that and just have dedicated machines for each caliber/specific loads.

Now there's s guy that really hates changing dies.

If you are worried about having gunpowder around, you might want to check the box whose labeled contents starts with "Balance". At the bottom of that list you will see "H335". H335 is a Hodgdon powder commonly used for reloading .223 Remington.

I wish somebody would offload several thousand dollars worth of reloading equipment on me like that. Sheesh, talk about walking into a pile of lucky there.

Blue is Dillon, they make really good equipment. I wouldn't say they make holy cow, well worth the price equipment that is worth the cost, but they wont the game in marketing for sure and were among the earliest companies in that market and more power to them because of that.

Open the boxes up, see what treasures you have and post them here so we can envy you.

I avoided reloading for a long time because I have a bit of the 'tism for things, such as. Wife bought me a Rock chucker, powder measure, and a beam scale for Christmas a few years back. That quickly progressed into an auto scale, multiple dies for the same calibers while sorting out what I liked, a brass prep center because the hand tool was slow and stupid, range days not starting until I grubbed out any brass I might use for plinking, watching for factory seconds and powder specials, running ladders for each of my rifles, buying a chronograph,

you know, a full on autist spiral.

Be careful, this is a deep rabbit hole.
