The kids are on spring break next week and are wanting to go fishing, we usually go off the bank at Lake LBJ or near the boat launch at Penny Backer on Lake Austin but it's been awhile since we've been. Not asking for any secret honey holes but any other suggestions, looking to maybe try and make it a fun day trip so trying to keep it within a couple of hours to home.

Appreciate any help!

Call ahead and check on the water level (should be good with the rain they've gotten upstream)...but Reimers Ranch is a fun spot. It's on the Pedernales River (access off Hamilton Pool Road).

If you do go out there, reach out, and I'll send you a map of where to go, which isn't as crowded, but a fun little/easy hike your kids will like...getting to the water.

Thanks, that's a great idea. I forgot about Reimers, we live off Fitzhugh so that would be a good spot.

My son loves to fish, so that could even be a good spot to head out when we don't have baseball.

One of my favorite spots to fish. (definitely call first though...been a bit, but last time I was out there, the water was way low)

You can drive all the way down, and get to the river that way.

You might already know this...but you can also hike down. It's a really short hike, and pretty dang fun with kids. You'll go by the areas where the rock climbers are, and see some cool cave formations.

Park at the first/top parking lot, and walk over to where the Red Star is....hop down the little creek/ravine opening, and just follow the trail down to the river.

OOC, how long have you lived off of Fitzhugh?

I appreciate it, we used to take them down there to swim a few years ago but haven't been in a couple of years.

Like you said fun hikes, but not crazy. Thanks again.

We've been out here going on four years. Love it minus the property taxes lol.

We're just down from the Olive Oil company.

Ah. Our place is down the road and we've had it since the early 70s. You can guess what we think of all the development and our taxes.

Oh I have no doubt. I told them the last time i contested them not sure who they plan on living here with the craziness of taxes.

Upper Colorado arm of LBJ below Inks dam. Reports that white bass are there if they generate.
Buchanan has been good also.
If you head that way you can fish Buc. LBJ and Inks cause you are right there.

You can check the LCRA River Report for the day before generation @ the dams, that's usually pretty consistent and can tell you when they will be generating. Unfortunately it looks like they are generating around sundown, so you might be night fishing.

They also have a fairly new park at the low water crossing below Mansfield Dam.
