My dad briefly collected Coleman lanterns and now my mom is looking to open up some garage space.

Any collectors in the north TX area? She's in Grayson County.

I've already got plenty! Good luck, though! The LED lights have gotten so good, that I don't have much need to fire up my lanterns, anymore, but the smell (and sound) of a Coleman lantern takes me back 35-40 years, to deer camp with Dad.

I've got several Coleman fuel canisters and some might be for lanterns or some might be for stoves. Not sure.

In Brazos County. Anybody that wants them can have them.

I might be interested. Any idea what might be in the collection?

My dad had 3 from the 50s. I kept them for the memories growing up with him floundering, fishing at night, frogging, camping.
Worth nothing yet I would not sell them for a $1000.

The sound of a Coleman lantern hissing is a symphony of good memories.

I like my propane Coleman. Super bright, shares fuel with the stove.

Thanks. This isn't my thing, but I would love to see pics of the collection. One of my favorite things on this board is seeing pics of cool old stuff and reading about them.

What I always HATED was trying to tie those mantles into place. It always seemed to need doing after a couple of beers ... at a point where I just wasn't in the mood to deal with those microscopic little *******s.

Several years ago I started working in chemical plants that had gauges with radioactive sources. It's usually not the first choice. If no other type of gauging device will work accurately for a particular application they will use a nuclear gauge. We have a radiation detector and use it to confirm shutter closure when locking out the gauges, usually for turnarounds. Anyway, you have a check source on your radiation detector to confirm that it is working properly before use. Two places I have worked had an older coleman lantern mantle as the check source. Seemed strange to me. The Coleman lantern mantles made early 90's and before had thorium dioxide in them. It emits a very low amount of radiation. Anyway, thought it was interesting.

Man I miss the old Coleman gas lanterns. We used to go out on Elmers Island in La, with those and flounder gigs. Good times with my Dad as a kid. Miss you Dad!

I have a very old one that recently did work but it doesn't leave our house. Its oil based and very old.

We have three or so of the new battery ones bought in the last couple of years at Academy. Those work really good but you have to either take out the batteries or change them a lot. We used one this last weekend at the Lake Whitney campground. Good lights.

Would love to see pictures! My brother-in-law collects them (much to his wife's dismay).
