https://oregonhunters.org/initiative-petition-28-2/

Linked is a petition to criminalize hunting, fishing, Ranching and Farming charging people who participate with animal cruelty. The petition currently has 100,000 needing around 20,000 to be sent to through the legislative process for a vote by the populace of Oregon.

Posting here to make everyone aware of the petition and ask the question of how to utilize existing laws to protect the traditions listed above from this insanity?

Will they also make it illegal for folks in Oregon to consume anything produced by hunting, fishing, farming, or ranching?

That should certainly help the gray wolf population there. An over population of prey will allow them to start seeing more predator animals

I consider farming and ranching to be national security level of importance. It is literally where the food comes from.

It is the reason that I am ok with farm subsidies when some of my conservative bretheren are not.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but these people need to be sent to the midwest during harvest season, or have to go work on a ranch in south Texas during the summer.

This is a nothing burger. Just some Portland fruit cakes virtue signaling to show their wife's boyfriend they accomplished something.

The state isnt going to outlaw something that generates revenue through licensing & tourism

Colorado used to sell trapping licenses. Never say never.

In today's world, you simply cannot make this statement with any accuracy at all.

I thought OP was exaggerating about the bill criminalizing farming and hunting. Nope. This is real. And they have 100k+ signatures so this is probably going to be on the ballot. What an absolutely crazy thing to petition for.

I guess people in Oregon get their nutrition through photosynthesis. Must be nice to not have to eat.

ODFW does like to make money. The keep hiking up the license fees every year. My Oregon resident fishing license was almost $100 in 2025 and I hear it went even higher this year. My Texas super combo this year was only $70-ish for everything, just one more reason that I'm glad I moved back.

This is the reason several rural counties in Oregon want to secede from the west coast part of the state. Already some folks have to travel to Idaho to purchase firearms.
