well at least the pig lived outdoors

I froze a pork butt. Yesterday got home from work and pulled it out to thaw it a few hours in the kitchen before putting in the fridge. Jump start thawing if you will.

Well I fell asleep and left it out all night. It was completely thawed but still cold this morning. Not cool....not super cold...but just cold.

would you still smoke it?

I'm very much leaning towards no....just not worth it.

Trip. If it was still cold-cool. If it's not slimy or odd odor you are good. As long as cool to touch should be good. But refrigerate or cook now.

If it is from HEB, it will still be slimy and stinky no matter what. That is just from the process that they use. Since it was still cold or even cool, you are fine. Smoke it.

I dont normally offer up something like this but if you cook it, have plenty of beer/whiskey on hand and have the aggie baseball game on the TV then I suppose I could come over and let you know if it was bad or not.

Yep. Opened one and pre-cook and it smelled gross. Didn't want it in the trash, so I triple wrapped it in grocery bags and threw it in the back of the truck under the bed cover

And forgot about it.....

Few days later. Gagging and wretching for my crimes, I was able to use a long stick and get it to the ground and into a dumpster. Then straight to a carwash with a roll of quarters.

I for one think we underestimate how tough our digestive system is. Unless it smells bad(it won't), go for it.

Wife drives me nuts with expiration dates and throwing out food. Most of that IMO is a racket anyway.

I usually let mine sit out for a couple hours to get to room temp before it goes on the smoker anyways. Just smell it. If it smells like ass, toss it. Theyre cheap.

first buck I ever euro mounted myself I didnt skin the head. Put it in a trash bag in my backyard to do a few days later and it was 75 degrees out. I was young...and stupid.

easily the most repulsive smell of my life while I skinned that head.
