Girl Scouts received a Thin Blue Line Flag in the box of flags to be retired. It caused a bit of a stir in the group of moms. I am not a vexillologist but would consider it a derivation not unlike putting the block ATM in lieu of the star on the Texas flag. I would not consider that a Texas flag.

Just handle it. Same way you would any other flag that came in.

Not everything has to be a thing.

Sounds like some women looking for a problem where a problem doesn't exist.

Random,

The first time I saw the Thin Blue Line flag was on the back of a truck of guy that stopped in front of my house to sell me speakers from "a job that they just finished" and had "too many".

I just laughed but wondered what the sticker was, found out later, had a second laugh.

It's not the official Stars and Stripes, and while it is a nice statement banner, it is not accorded the same treatment.

I'd just take care of it. I won't go to the trouble of trying to hunt down a place to retire an American or Texas flag because I don't have time for that, so I'll just kinda of deal with it as easily as possible. The fact someone went to that much trouble tells me they made a good effort and they care so, just deal with it. Most flags I know about end up in the trash so they tried to do what they thought was the right thing and that's a million times more important to me.

Probably not worthy of retirement, but not worth kicking up a fuss.

If someone defaced a "proper" US flag, say by spray painting an anarchist "A" in a circle across it, or God forbid, a swastika, would she still not want to retire it properly? If not, what should be done with it now that she's in possession of it?

Flags shouldn't be political statements and frankly are dumb AF, no matter the message. They are divisive and take away the true and only meaning of the flag itself.

What? Holy circular logic, Batman.
Furthermore, their entire raison d'etre is political.

Look up the flag code process for retirement of a synthetic flag. Basically it's removing the stars and blue field from the stripes. Once you do this it's no longer the flag of the USA. Then you cut it into small squares and recycle like any other synthetic material.

Take care of it quietly behind the scenes and no big deal.
