Help me. I've got army worms on my herb garden. The little *******s have almost decimated my cilantro and dill and threatening to take my basil and oregano. What is the best way to get rid of these pests?

Sevin dust.

Dang. Never seen them this early. What areas are you in? Sure they're army worms?

Yep. Found them on my basil yesterday. About to do a heaving spray of Spinosad on everything. That will knock them out fast. Friendlier to the bees than 7.

They were in my garden today.

They do seem a bit early this year. I found some pigweed as well as pokeweed that were lousy with 2nd instar beet armyworms today.

I typically use BT with good effect, but I couldn't put a dent in them this year with it, I'm wondering if it was because my bottle is a few years old.

I switched to spinosad; I haven't annihilated them, but I've knocked'em back enough for my plants to be successful.

Just don't apply it to plants that are blooming.

Yes. Bt is somewhat delicate, but nails about any caterpillar out there. It's my organic choice with Sevin dust being my nuclear weapon.

It's been decades since I dealt with them in South Texas coastal fields, but they would literally wipe out hundreds and thousands of acres of lush vegetation practically overnight. The butterflies that follow then coat your windshield! Mother Nature at her worst!

Old Bt is probably no good. Large larvae are not highly susceptible to Bt. Need to target .25 inch or smaller worms. Spinosad and any pyrethroid should be light out on them.
