I plan on using my .308 SCAR for all my hunting this year. I have read that the SCAR is hard on scopes. I currently have a honking big Monstrum Tactical on it, but not sure if it is up to the task. The rifle currently shoots about an MOA, but I plan on shooting multiple brands/weights of ammo to find out what it likes, but I want to put a good scope and rings in it to rule out the optics when searching for less than MOA groups. I would like to be in the 5-25x50 size of scope, as I might feel like reaching out and popping a pig or coyote if one appears. Any good recommendations for a scope and quality rings?

Most higher end 5-25x50 scopes will be overkill (in size and weight) for that rifle IMO. I would recommend a quality LPVO in the range of 1-8 or 1-10. I don't know your budget but higher end manufacturers, such as Nightforce, March, Swarovski, etc. will probably cost as much as that rifle is worth. However there are lower costs units that are plenty trustworthy for testing groups with good mounts.

Ya, there is no way I am spending another upwards of 3K to shoot at animals no farther than 5-600 yards. I have a handful of bolt action rifles that can do that and more. I will not shoot at a game animal past about 300 yards either, just my preference not too.

Any reccos for these lower cost brands? I have mounted a Vortex Diamondback 4-16x40 on it to start, but I am not a fan of it, and it may not be robust enough for the recoil impulse which is supposed to be pretty stout on these rifles.

PS: The eyes ain't what they used to be, so more magnification the better, and it also lets me evaluate a buck at longer ranges to decide if it is a shooter or not.

If I'm spending your money, a 4-16x night force atacr first focal plane.

If I'm spending my money, swfa 3-15 or 3-9.

I would think most of the mid price range models of the well known manufacturers should work just fine for what you are wanting to do with it. They all should handle 308 recoil and don't sound like you will be putting the rifle thru military maneuvers. A stout mounting system is probably as important in maintaining zero as the scope itself. Get a good mount, perhaps a one piece unit. If you are worried about a mid level scope model tracking true, then consider getting something like a mildot reticle to where you just hold instead of dialing for distance. You will also have to decide if you want first or second focal plane, mil or MOA, and realistic power range. If shooting only 300 to 500 yards max, and then only occasionally, with a MOA rifle then 10 power should be sufficient. If trying to reach out past 500 yards with 0.5 MOA rifle I might recommend something different. Afterall remember, Carlos Hathcock mounted an 8 power Unertl scope on a 50 bmg and hit targets at 1000 yards.

This is a fantastic deal on this scope. Meopta has glass WAY above its price point. I have an Optika 6 in a 1-6x and 2.5-15x and could not be happier. Durability won't be an issue.

Nightforce Atacr 5-25 with something like a Scalarworks Leap or Spur one piece scope mount.
