I'm not as tech savy as others, but remember someone mentioned on another thread that apple air tags are constantly putting off a signal, and there is equipment available to detect if there is a signal being given off that thieves sometimes use. Possibly to the precision of being able to find the airtag and remove it, but I am not sure.
One recommendation was a GPS tracker that only pings once every so often therefore reducing the chance of the tracker being found. The downside is if a thief uses the equipment to find a sensor and picks up an airtag, they may move on and not steal it but ymmv.
