Happy you had a good trip and are off the river this morning . The upper most stream gauge at Boxley has gone from 50cfs to over 6000cfs overnight.

I'm sure some people found out they didn't camp high enough last night.

What section did you float?

We had perfect timing and did a short trip from Tyler Bend to gilbert on friday. It's an annual thing that's more about the fellowship than the river. But, the river has a very special place in that. Met an Aggie who was in a group of four that said they were on a four-day trip. They looked plenty experienced so I'm not concerned about them. It flooded right before we got there, we had fantastic current then flooded right after we left.

I lived in Arkansas for the better part of 9 years and never had chocolate gravy. Just not my thing.

Looks like a fun trip! I have always caught my biggest fish in that river on tubes in deeper water.

I've been here for 2 and have not had it since we got here, but had it a lot on visits through the years to my in-laws.

In one of the many "Euros discovering America and that the Worldwide Media has been Lying" videos a Brit traveled through Arkansas and floated the Buffalo. He basically has found that Arkansas is his favorite state on his journey by far. Good stuff.

That prompted other Arkansas videos on my algo I guess, including one from a food blog that had 10 foods invented in Arkansas. We know about chocolate gravy and possum pie (my in-laws called it "four layer delight"), but had no idea that fried pickles and Cavender's Greek Seasoning were invented in Arkansas. The debate about the origin of cheese dip / queso will rage forever, but Arkansas' version dates back to 1935.

Looks like yall had a great time. I really want to float some of the upper reaches around Jasper, but that area is more conducive to spring floats due to low water in summer, although you cant tell it rt now.

Floated another river not far from you last Saturday, and got caught in that lightning storm & torrential downpour. That was….interesting. But we found shelter at a nearby house and waited the storm out where some folks were gracious enough to let us hang out on there porch for awhile. Had we left our kayaks on the riverbank overnight, they would have been gone the next morning. Once the rain subsided, we resumed the remaining mile or so float to our truck. Caught some good ones though, best brownie was close to 2lb. Caught decent spots and LM too.

I have lived up here over a decade and don't recall having seen chocolate gravy. Maybe I need to try it.
