Installing a ceiling fan is the oil change of the electrical business.

you can call 10 people out of the phone book or pick those above.

A ceiling fan is pretty basic, just please for all that's holy, use somebody licensed. Any of our competitors are fine just don't go the "handyman" route. I see tons of damage caused by people trying to save 15 bucks by using someone unqualified, just to end up hiring one of us to come fix it.

+1 for Elite Electric. I've had them out a couple of times in the past two years and their guys have been professional/helpful.

I've used Ace Handyman in BCS several times for handyman projects and even used them for a bathroom renovation.
They have installed garbage disposals, ceiling fans, house lights, wall sconces, put together a murphy bed, sealed driveway, wall safe install, drywall repair, toilet swapping and more!
Unless their prices have changed it's a $50 call out then $120/hr. They have licensed electricians, plumbers, as well as general handymen.

Sponsorship of the board aside, I've used Elite for a number of projects including running a couple of 240 volt circuits and hanging one of those cast iron Hunter ceiling fans on a cathedral ceiling that was too high for me to do myself. Prices are reasonable and they did quality work.

TDLR doesn't have them listed.

Again I have nothing against any other company or individual doing the work, but remember to use licensed reputable people. I am an electrical contractor, we get 50 or so calls a year that are homeowner or landlord nightmares, where someone hired an unqualified person and they botched it. Then they have to call a real EC to fix it.

And FYI you'd save a few bucks calling a real EC for electrical work, 120 per hour is pretty steep

When I did my bathroom renovation they said they used licensed electricians and plumbers. May have subcontracted out.
As for the $120/hr being steep, considering I called 3 electricians to provide quotes to install an outlet in a bathroom for a bidet. Nothing fancy, a gfci outlet. The first electrician (which had many reviews and claimed to be in business since the 1990's) tried to upsell me to install CO/Smoke detectors on dedicated circuit, give me a membership to their services, run the outlet in the attic to a dedicated gfci breaker in the panel, and install a new connector on the grounding rod for $3,400. And wanted me to look into replacing my breaker box for another $4k.
I asked how much just for the outlet? $1,200.

The second electrician wanted $800 to install the outlet.

The third electrician again, reputable company in business 30+ years, finally said outlet which would run to an existing junction box in the attic for $400. Had him swap out a porch fixture that brought the total to $525.

With outrageous pricing as well as the upselling, I'll take my handyman and the electricians they bring in for $120/hr. If Ace had done it the electrician would have billed me just the parts from Lowes or their supplier at cost (which they did for the bathroom when they needed some parts to put the new light fixture in. They gave me the receipts) as well as the actual time they take to do the work, not the book cost.

I would recommend a bonded and insured electrician. Ceiling fans are always in a battle with gravity.

Well I am glad you're happy, and in the end that's what is important. Couple of quicks thoughts-

Adding a 120v (20 amp) receptacle is usually between $75 and $250 depending conditions and existing conditions. For example adding a plug near another in the same wall (f/e adding a plug for a TV above an existing plug) would be in the 75 range whereas adding one in an exterior wall would be much more costly. That $800-$1200 sounds ridiculous and don't know why you got those numbers or who you got them from so I have no feedback there, except to add it doesn't sound reasonable. Furthermore "Ace Handyman" might be a great guy and use above board subs that are licensed and insured. They may also be like the majority of "handymen" that do it themselves, against Texas law with unqualified persons and without the proper umbrella insurance.

All I am trying to do here is protect the public at large from taking dangerous risks with their property. Although you, once apparently, had an experience where properly qualified contractors worked on your home, we as a company see time and time again "handymen" doing shady work that does not meet Texas or National Electrical Code requirements. Work that is installed in a manner that could cost property damage or loss and in extreme cases loss of life or injury to occupants.

Use licensed qualified persons folks.

No worries. I get you're looking out for the public. And I'm glad there are those that do.

As for the cost of the outlet, the 5 or 6 quotes I got, NONE were under $500 except the one. They averaged $650-800. Sounds like I should be calling y'all for electrical work!

I just like Ace as they're backed by Ace Hardware and they have always come in under price than using others such as Hartman's Lance Bell, Coleman, and several others I've gotten bids from over the years from. One I told I wanted hardie plank installed, he subcontracted and they brought warped pine. It split before the end of the summer. Been burned too often. So when youbfind someone who works and does good work you stick with them lol.

I'm confused why you are worried about getting 5-6 electrical quotes but are okay with paying $120 an hour for handyman or general construction work ?

And I agree with elite. I have seen numerous botch jobs from hacks who don't know simple electric principles. Like 14/2 on 20 amp breakers, outlets wired counterclockwise on the terminals, 18 gauge extension cords run inside walls on 20 amp breakers, 12/2 wire on a 50 amp breaker, ceiling fans mounted to plastic light fixture boxes etc etc etc.

You pay for what you get. Go to a quack oil change business, and you will get whatever oil is on the shelf closest to the worker. May not be a big deal to some, but if you have a $95,000 car, good luck.
