Two very nice boys were working my neighborhood asking to take the trash and recycling bins to the street and haul them back each week. $1 per week (they were visiting a lot of houses).

My first thought was ok that's cool, kids actually making money the old fashioned way.

My second darker thought (because it's the world we live in was) so what if this is a scam where kid gets "injured" hauling a trash can and I find myself on the receiving end of a law suit?

I have not said yes to this, but I'd be curious to hear thoughts. TIA for insights.

Seems like more risk of injury if they mow your lawn.

Anyways, that's what homeowners insurance is for. They'll be suing your insurance company, not you.

I hate that we even have to think of this! But I agree you always have to think of the liability these days…. Sighhhhh…

A bigger risk is someone going through your trash to find data for identity theft. That is not necessarily just fixed by homeowner's insurance. At least thats the worry of the good old days as now your personal info is all out there anyway for someone mildly savvy enough to find it. Fun to reminisce about those fears however.

...less your 1 to 5% deducible that you pay and then when you have a claim, afterwards they don't renew it, Had that happen with a friend of mine here in town,

Or…give the kid a $10 to cover the first couple of months and consider it money well spent. It's good to see young kids with a bit of entrepreneurial spirit.

Plot twist

Kid gets hurt and you have the kid arrested for stealing your recyclables.

That's actually pretty cool. Someone needs to tell that kid to raise their rates.

This is what I'd like to believe.

Never considered this as a business opportunity. I have a 96 year old neighbor, I have been doing this for her for almost a decade now, since her husband passed. She can get the trash to the can, but the driveway is too steep for her to be able to push it too the street. I also bring her mail up to the door each day and leave it on a chair that's on her porch. I have several other elderly neighbors that I do similar things for.

Getting old sucks.

We also put out trash and recycle for our elderly neighbor plus anyone who is on vacation.
