How long do you want to ignore this user?
My son is walking tomorrow (5/8/2026) at 2:00 and we would greatly appreciate some helpful tips for my family from some local Ags with experience of graduation ceremonies.
The wife and I are both WT grads but I've been an Aggie fanatic since the mid-80s. Our son was indoctrinated his whole life and he made the transfer his sophomore year from WT into the ECON program at A&M.
We've been to multiple games in Aggieland and are aware of the amount of traffic, however, his grandparents have travelled from Amarillo to celebrate this accomplishment for him.
Mine and my wife's mothers have mobility issues and have handicap parking placards and I believe they are supposed to park in lot 102 near Reed.
When should we arrive to be beneficial for the grandparents? We were thinking to arrive two hours before the ceremony.Any other helpful info that will help us celebrate this monumental occasion?

2 hours is way too early.

Graduation is a well oiled machine and may be one of the most efficient things the university does.

30 to 45 min early is typically enough unless you really want a specific seat or someone needs assistance due to mobility issues etc.

Disagree.

Get there at least an hour early if you want to find seats you like.

My advice is to skip it

Obviously I'm (mostly) not serious. 2 hours wouldn't be unreasonable if you want good seats

90-120 minutes to get in line,
they open doors one hour before ceremony

best seats are in section 121
enter through SOUTH entrance which is far from handicap parking
so might as well park near south entrance

if you plan to sit in handicap area they will not let the whole family sit there

South entrance faces intramural fields

My daughter graduated Wed

When you leave, traffic will be a mess due to graduation and Friday 5 O'Clock traffic. If you leave via Penberthy towards George Bush, the left turn is blocked for a reason. Don't go a block, do a U turn, and try to get on George Busy to go towards Wellborn. You'll get stuck. Priority for traffic flow will be Penberthy and Olsen to get everyone out for the next session, so traffic on George Bush will sit while the others get cleared out.

If you go out that way, go west on George Bush (right) and get where you need to from there. It will save time. Trust me.

South and west entry's have stairs to get to the doors. North and east entry are more mobile friendly as is the main door off of Pa 102.

Handicapped parking is a premium as everyone brings grandparents and other family/friends with mobility issues.

The top three rows are reserved for people with mobility issues. Want a better seat, get there when the doors open. First come, first served.

Once you are in, stay in. If the ceremony is a big college, it may go past capacity and when that happens the doors get shut. It won't matter if you have a seat saved inside. You'll be stuck outside until enough people leave to reopen the doors.

Once you find your seats, stick to them. Only a couple leave at a time to go to the bathroom, concessions, whatever. They do not allow seats to be saved.

Leaving afterward is a nightmare, just be prepared for it and go with the flow.

She didn't do what I did the night before though. She was nervous and couldn't sleep.

The night before my graduation, my parents took family and friends out to dinner. We had a couple drinks and then the old folks went home and we hit NG. A couple of us were graduating and our friends were determined to keep us up all night. I rolled in around 3am and told my dad I didn't want to walk in the morning. I thought he was going to punch me lol. I changed my mind real quick.

Thanks again for all of the pro tips. Turning right on George Bush to clear the area was money. I thought circling back around to University was going to be a cluster but it wasn't bad at all considering the event.

Graduation was a smooth event and it was nice we got to see all of the Corp members get commissioned who chose to do so.

I hope your family and esp your son had a great and memorable time! Graduation at A&M is true celebration. Feel proud and may your new graduate go off to do great things in the A&M way!

I've lived here as a grown-up/townie since 2012 and this is the busiest I can remember town for graduation. Am I off my rocker or is this the largest number of grads in TAMU history?

I suppose both things can be true too.

Largest ever. They had to add a ceremony on Wednesday night. Over 13k grads.
My perspective.
