Wife and I are planning to move from Hutto to Montgomery County this year. We're early 30s with a 1 year-old and one on the way. We like Woodforest and the surrounding area, but would love to hear from some locals on the schools, traffic, development, or just the general direction that area is going. TIA.

Wood forest looks awesome but narrow lots and streets. That said, this listing may make you feel less cramped.

Traffic on 1488/2978 is pretty bad.

Roads have not caught up to the influx of people in the area. If you are commuting keep that in mind.

Also make sure you are in the area of Woodforest zoned to Montgomery ISD, some house are zoned to Conroe ISD and CHS.

This is a problem across Houston, period. He's likely used to it being from the Austin area.

OP, I have a friend that lives in one of the rural subdivisions off Honea-Egypt. It's a great area to live, but schools are not close. My kids sometimes play soccer matches at Stampede Sportsplex in Woodforest and the area seems like a great place to live.

Montgomery or Magnolia are better living areas. If you are looking to save money, Cut and Shoot has some homes for cheap. Just be mindful of random AR/AK rounds being fired. Also and this is very important, we vote RED in Montgomery county. So if you plan on voting blue, please move to Harris County. Other than that, welcome to Montgomery County where law enforcement actually give a damn and criminals "are" prosecuted.

The fact that it's red is a top 3 reason we're moving there.

Woodforest is nice although generally high property taxes so look at that. Comments about the schools are accurate too

1000% agree with the poster that said traffic on 1488 sucks. It really does and won't be getting better any time soon. Yes, all Houston traffic sucks but that's consistently bad.

Give South Montgomery County a look. There's a pocket east of 45 and south of 99 that's nice. You have Spring Trails, Harmony, Woodson's Reserve, and Benders Landing. All zoned to good Conroe ISD schools and easier access to Houston, airport, etc. It's still close to the Woodlands too.

Best of luck!

If you decide on Magnolia research your schools carefully. They are not all created equal. We live in Magnolia but our kids go to private school.

We also live in one of the rural subdivisions near Woodforest, and this is so true. It feels like everything except HEB and Target is 30 minutes away. Especially the kids stuff. Schools, baseball fields, swimming, music lessons, we've done it all and it is always a trek. We do like the Montgomery schools though and you can take advantage of things in Montgomery, Conroe, The Woodlands, Magnolia, and Tomball. Just none of it is right around the corner.

Have lived in Montgomery (closer to downtown) for almost four years now and love it even with all the growth. Wife is excited for the new HEB and everything else is a 20-30min drive away max. Feel free to message me. Also very familiar with MISD.
