Wife and I finally made it to a dealership this past weekend and got to check out the new GX. As much as I want her to get a used 460 she's not budging. With that said I'm curious for those of yall that have one what's yall experiences have been like this far. This you like/dislike options you can do without etc.

FWIW we will get either the premium or premium + trim level. I'd like to stick with the base premium just to save some $ but she seems to think the kick gate on the hatch and captain seats are necessary.

Curious what yall have to say about them.

My wife wanted one really bad too, until I joined a GX group in FB and saw all the issues they were having.

I have had one for over a year now with the Overtrail + trim. All in all it's a fine vehicle but pretty boring and nothing about it is special. Gas mileage suck, which I knew, but combine that with the small fuel tank and I'm getting just under 300 miles per fill up (all city driving). My only real complaint is the upgraded Mark Levenson stereo absolutely sucks and I'm still waiting on the dealership to fix the common break squeal issue under warranty.

We got my wife one in May last year. Overtrail + and she still loves it. Haven't had any issues, but like FTA mentioned above gas mileage sucks. Get the package for replacement windshields too if they offer. The upright angle on the windshield is not forgiving when it comes to taking rocks on the hwy.

Online groups tend to gravitate to the negative, but if Lexus is actually producing a GX that has a lot of problems I have to wonder what manufacturer is out there actually making a reliable vehicle these days. I hear crap about every manufacturer.

Early Tacomas and Tundras were not great. The early years had above average issues. But, they kept improving incrementally until they were bulletproof. They didn't make many changes other than cosmetic and introduced new technologies slowly.

The newest models have new engines and a lot of new technologies. They have to go through the process again to make a bulletproof vehicle. New ones are average.

That's surprising to hear. It was a damn good system on my old IS350.

Lexus and Levinson lost their way a few years ago and it's a very common complaint with the 550. If you are a casual background music person it's fine but it's truly poor as an upgrade for anyone who cares about sound.

Wife has had hers for about 5 months. Gas mileage is terrible and the break squeal issue has been noted for the dealer to check on her first oil change. She came from a 2018 GX so the interior and tech is light years ahead but still not as good as what you can get for the price point. She is set on driving a GX since her 18 was so good for us and we will see if this one holds up as well. Overall review would be a B at this point. Don't get me wrong it is very nice and she has no regrets about the purchase but maybe our expectations were higher given our previous ownership and thinking that with the new model that hadn't changed in over a decade would have been better.

We traded in my wife's 2018 RX 350 last year because one of the solenoids on the transaxle system started going bad at 62k miles.

Lexus won't just replace the solenoid and wanted $12k to replace the transaxle. I called three shops around DFW and all of them said no to replacing the solenoid because of the legal liability related to deviating from the manufacturers prescribed fix. The cheapest quote I got was around $8k.

We found out the new GXs have a similar, but not identical, transaxle setup and our experience on the RX was enough to go with another manufacturer.

this part of the reason why we are leaning Lexus. Wife currently has a 4runner which she loves and I grew up in a hardcore Toyota family. I just struggle with the thought of paying 73k or more for a z71 Tahoe that doesn't have ventilated seats when I can get a GX for the same or cheaper. Not to mention the durability of gmc, ford, etc just hasn't ever been the same and they cost just as much as Toyota and Lexus these days

I've had a Luxury+ for just about a year now. I've loved it. As others have said, the gas tank is small and mileage isn't great. That said, the MPG isn't really any different than any other 6 passenger options I was comparing it with.

I have had a chip and replacement on the windshield….they are pretty vertical similar to a Jeep Wrangler so that's part of the deal, but I like the look. I haven't had any issues with the upgraded sound system, I've actually enjoyed it but I'm also not looking to crank it and blow it out.

The driving and comfort themselves are fantastic. Very smooth, and very comfortable. The options on the drive mode will give you whatever you are looking for…sometimes in the SoCal hills I prefer a little more punch and switch to sport mode. Typically I leave in ECO, but sometimes with freeway/traffic driving I prefer the comfort mode.

I've had no mechanical surprises so far. Someone above mentioned a brake squeal, and I did notice that after my most recent service but it comes and goes. I'll have to get that checked out.

I was hesitant to jump on the first round of the new GX, but really needed to do something right then and put trust into the Lexus reputation of quality and service. So far, there have been no disappointments. Especially when considering I'd be spending within $10 (at the time) if I opted for a decked out Tahoe or something similar. Anyhow, just my thoughts!

I have the brake squeal issue on my LandCruiser, guy at the dealer gave the advice to get up to a decent speed and then just slam on the brakes hard and that will clear out the dust that causes the issue.
He blamed it on some change in a material in the brakes due to a California regulation.
I have no idea the validity of what he said…

Seems likely to me. That's probably why it has squeaked a little after being serviced (and cleaned), and then goes away.

It's interesting to see so many reviews that are pretty, "Meh", for a $90k vehicle.

to be fair you can get a lower trim one for $75OTD. Just as much if not cheaper than tahoes these days. The GX holds its value wayyyy more than a Tahoe ever will.

I got one for my wife- Luxury Plus- build date was in mid-June and now it's on the vessel from Japan and arrives in the next couple of weeks... you done got me worried now. ...I needed her to have something reliable since the 6.2L engine failed on her two year old Yukon Denali and GM had a 6-7 month back order on those engines. I figured Toyota/Lexus would come with much better reliability and local Lexus dealer would have much much much much much better service than horrible GMC dealership.

Isn't that most cars these days? Boring designs. Lackluster features. Terrible "tablets" everywhere. No physical buttons. Technology monitoring and monetizing your every move. Sky high prices, up lifts everywhere, renting features that are already installed on the car, and you're lucky if the car lasts to 100k miles without a catastrophic failure.

It's like we're living in the late 70s all over again.

I hope Mercedes saying they're ditching the 4 cylinder in AMGs and more manufacturers putting physical buttons back in is a shift in the right direction but I doubt it.

We looked seriously at a GX550. My gripes were 1) entry trim leaves out a lot to be desired and if you want some basic luxury items (like pano roof) you have to go to Luxury or Lux+.

The interior was more austere. There was no adjustment in the middle row position. So if the drivers get comfy, middle row can be tight. Captain chair option is fixed and there is no going back.

For what we wanted and for the flexibility: we bought a '25 MDX Advanced, which happened to come with seat massagers as a bonus to the other stuff we wanted. I could gripe about Acura as well, not including 360 cam system until the Advanced trim. But you get a lot of bells, whistles, and interior refinement for $17-$18,000 less.

I'll add that the GX550 is going to be far more capable for actual rough driving or off road scenarios, but 95% of the drivers in Central Austin are soccer moms going to Central Market or dropping kids off for play dates.

Historically. Remains to be seen if this radical new generation will hold its value the way the old V8 models did.

I've had my Premium+ GX550 for 4 months. I love it! I knew the gas mileage wouldn't be good, but I don't mind. I upgraded from a 2016 Honda pilot, so this has been a really nice upgrade with quality materials, feel, tech, etc.

If you don't know what you're doing, do it quickly.

We have been on a waitlist in Fort Worth since October of 2024 and are still over 220+ spots away. How long have others waited elsewhere (Houston, Austin, San Antonio)?

No deposit was required.

No deposit was required.

I paid the deposit in late April and ours arrived on the vessel from Japan and departed via rail last week. Arrives at the dealership here, Northside Lexus in Spring/The Woodlands, next week.

Sales guy at the dealership told us the more trims and colors you're open to, the faster you can get one. He initially told us that it would take much longer to get Luxury Plus because they are lower production. We had Premium Plus and Luxury with three different colors on our list for a while, but I had him add Luxury Plus after about a month just for the hell of it and we got notified they were allocated one about a week later and gave us the build-date and everything.

I'm told Northside is one of the largest dealers in the country and they do get a lot of allocations. The plant allocates them to dealers roughly twice per month and the avg wait time is about 3 months.

I also called or texted the salesman for updates almost every week so maybe that helped

I believe we were told we were around 200 deep on the list when we first got on it.

I drove past ABZ Motors in Houston this morning and was shocked at the number they had on the lot. Looked them up, and there are 11 sitting with low miles listed at $15K+ over original MSRP. I didn't realize the the GX550 was the new Rolex.

We waited 8 months and finally got ours last week. Wife loves the car. We had to go up a level to get one. We were on waitlist for premium plus but the dealer we were on waitlist indicated they weren't getting many in that trim level but could put us in Luxury much sooner.

A lot of "new" but previously titled LX's as well. You can see some of the Carfax on their website and looks like they are all being purchased in the northeast (NY, CT), titled in various places like SC and MT (no sales tax) then offered for sale here. No thanks!
