Picked up a '25 Explorer ST today. On the way home on a 2 lane road that had construction, an 18 wheeler blowing by in the opposite direction sent a rock right into my windshield.

Had a mobile repair guy come out and he said since there's multiple layers in newer windshields and it looked like the "inner layer " cracked, he thinks the pressures created while fixing the ding would cause it to crack more. He said to leave it and it may not spread but if it does then just replace the windshield. Should I get a second opinion ???

My guys drills out the hole, very little pressure. Fills with resin or something.

Even if your guy was right what's the harm in trying to fill it?

If you're in CS I have a guy.

If you're in Houston, DFW, San Antonio, or liberalville....so the diy fill deal.from.auto zone.
It either solves problem or buys time till you get another crack and get whole thing replaced

Why bother. Murphy's law says if you attempt any fix you'll just jump to the front of the line to get another hit.

On my f150 I replaced the windshield and two weeks later got smashed again. Didn't replace it for like 4 years until I got another worse one.

Took it to a reputable shop and they said it's repairable so. I dunno what to think about the first guy now

Can't get the screenshot of the text to post but my kids F250 had a big hit just above the windshield wiper a few weeks ago on the passenger side on hwy 6 near Navasota, returning from CS. Fist sized and threw some small glass pieces inside on my wife's lap on the passenger seat and the center console. Neither my son or wife saw the projectile that hit it but said they were behind an older dual wheel truck. Had to stop at the nearest store and buy shipping tape to apply to both sides to drive home.

The glass shop recommended by our Ford dealer said a non - oem windshield would not have survived that hit. Replaced it in the 16 f250 with Ford oem windshield for $595.

My 2006 F150's windshield was a rock magnet. I replaced the windshield 4 times. Shockingly, when driving on 75 north of McKinney, I saw a semi launch a baseball sized rock at me. Hit right in front of the passenger seat and bounced off. I had no where to go due to construction, but thought it was going to be bad.
