Love the idea, will be interesting if it ever comes to light. Would rather have this "concept" over the slate for weekend jobs.

Yep.

Either that or it will be 2.5x target cost. Or 24 months into delayed delivery it will be "oh yeah we decided to put the engine in the back, under the bed".

You do realize that they produced that exact truck, and that's what the band took as their name… company was around in the early 1900s.

Why are people so afraid of buying used?

I would rather have a loaded truck with 200,000 miles on it (Toyota or diesel) than this thing new.

Cool idea, I like it. I don't really need a truck but maybe 3 years from now I will. $25. #2844 in line

Yeah, I read their press release. The company name was gone for 50 years before the new company decided to Take It On The Run

Because right now the EPA has such a stranglehold on all of the manufacturers trying to squeeze whatever they can from ounces while shoving ever increasing high margin tech leads to very real concerns over out of warranty reliability coupled with planned obsolescence of everything inside.

Three of our five family vehicles were bought used with low miles. Great way to go. Let somebody else eat the initial depreciation.

There is no way I'd drop money on a vehicle from a new manufacturer. The next new car manufacturer may be the next Tesla, that grows and can support the vehicles they manufacture. More likely, it's going to be the next Fiskar. You're not going to be able to get parts or support for it.

I figure it can't be uglier than the 2027 Silverado, and to learn more I just read the description, which is crazy I know. Plus it's a refundable $25, even Texags lolpoorz can manage that!

Reserved. It's fully refundable so if I don't like it surrender the spot.

I'm honestly not worried about not seeing a rendering. Their comment that "The buyers didn't leave, the product did" says to me they know what the buyer wants. Someone that is happy with what we had in small trucks in the 90's doesn't want something that looks like a Cyber truck.

With their commitment to mechanical and simple I wonder how they will be dealing with all of the federally required tech nonsense... Especially with regard to the nanny-state crap that's supposedly still mandated for 2027.

Obviously they'll need an airbag suite along with the accelerometers and ECU for those, backup cameras are federally mandated, but what about the nanny-state driver monitoring? That might not jive with their pledge to adopt tech when it's established and cheap.

If I'm putting down $25, it's a $25 bet that this never happens and everybodys' $25 deposit will never be refunded. This is a "car company" started up by a Dallas real estate agent with no car industry experience, other than being a Japanese car fan-boy. He probably had some pretty sick posters on his wall as a kid, though...

Might as well just buy the Slate, which appears to be what he is copying for the mini-truck. Yes, it's a $50 reservation, but there's a good chance you can get that back.

What are the odds you would want to bet there?

That's sort of a compound bet. You're betting the truck is never made, and you're betting no one gets their money back. Not a single person.

How much money would you expect to win if you were correct?

This will come in far more expensive than they're saying. Far more.

Truth is, manufacturers make far more in software fees and residuals and car loans than they do selling the cars themselves.

This yoko's dream of selling you a "technology free dumbed down truck with a super crap interior for 20k+ less" is just a huge dream.

And good lord, why would I want that?

I read this letter:
https://reotrucks.com/the-case

And then looked up Zach De Bernardi and found his LinkedIn that says he's a Realtor.
https://www.linkedin.com/in/zach-de-bernardi-57942682/

There's now a second profile, I don't know if it's real or fake:
https://www.linkedin.com/in/zach-de-bernardi-989b6a321/

Anyway, could be interesting. At least they get to start fresh without the overhead of retiree medical and pension plans. That probably saves them $8,000/unit right there.
