I've got an
Update to an interesting story- some of you guys may have seen the story in the last couple of years about Ronald Forrester'69 lost in Vietnam in Dec 72 and listed on the MIA rolls until his remains were found and identified in Dec 23 and brought home to be interred at Arlington in Oct 24.

Aggie magazine
https://www.aggienetwork.com/ag/5ee9f60d289f/

News stories like that have covered a good bit of the story but I think they've missed highlighting an important part it

I think the real story is daughter Karoni Forrester's (class of 96) commitment to pushing and driving the search for not, just his remains, but the 1,800 Vietnam MIAs still missing for the last 50 years. No doubt Capt Forrester, Aggie and Marine is the main part of this story, but Karoni and rest of the family are real story behind and between the lines

The update news is that Texas Monthly is producing a podcast later this month and the magazine will have an article this summer - I'm hoping they capture and tell us move of that part of the Forrester's' story

He was called at the campus muster in 78

I put him on the local list last year after remains were identified

and I think I'm gonna make sure he's called and answered here tonight after his internment at Arlington Oct 24

My Vietnam unit still has 10 MIA. And we were a helicopter company with our own search capability. And we're still in contact with the folks doing the searching. It's extremely frustrating.

I just listened to the first episode. Very well done. I am looking forward to listening to more of them. I had shared an article about Ron with my dad a few years ago. My dad knew Ron from the RAG, VMAT-202, at Cherry Point. Ron was a B/N and my dad was a pilot, they flew together in training. At that time the Marines only had a few A-6 squadrons as it was a new airframe for them, and they were training pilots and B/Ns as fast as they could. My dad was assigned to VMA-(AW)-224, and onto the USS Coral Sea for a cruise on the line at Yankee Station and Ron went to VMA-(AW)-533 and Nam Phong, Thailand. My dad made it home, served for 33 years, and is still an active member of the Intruder Association today. God Bless the crews who did not make it home and their families.

The first episode was really good - great sounding production - good representation of The Corp of Cadets and mentions of Muster

I "knew" who Ron Forrester was as someone two classes behind would know an upperclassman. I left the States for Thailand the day he was lost. The first episode was good. I had a few minor points of disagreement but one would expect that from a Texas Monthly journalist with no knowledge of fighter aviation in combat. Nothing significant enough to detract from the story though. Episode 3 was just released and was very good with people very versed in aviation and POW/MIA issues.

I haven't read nor care for Texas Monthly but will definitely get a copy when it comes out. I'd love to see similar efforts to recover the remains of Steve Johnston '68 who was shot down over Laos on Jan 4, 1973.

There is an article about Ron Forrester in this month's issue of Texas Monthly (the Top 50 BBQ issue).
