If ever SEC team (excluding our beloved Aggies) had to choose their top rival, would we be listed by anyone? The sips would probably select zero u and lswho would pick the gumps. Would we be anyone's No. 1?

I work with some younger t.u. alums and they all think OU is their biggest rival. They are too young to remember the hate.

we are tu's main rival - otherwise we wouldn't have so many longhorn lurkers on this site. We are in their fight song as well - no boomer references in their fight song.

I think we're several team's #2 rival if not #1. If we end up selecting 3 permanent teams in SEC it should be tu, LSU and Arky. Those 3 make the best sense for us.

I can see choosing permanent games (until the next realignment) can be tricky. It seems to be very possible that everyone will not get their No. 1 Rival.

Rivals aren't chosen!! they are developed through years of competition whether friendly or not. tu always has been A&M's rival, mostly by pranks that caused ill will. Just by calling that bunch of cow worshippers tu raise their hackles. Plus their chant of poor Aggies cause our temper to stir.
On any given football Saturday my two favorite teams are the Fightin' Texas Aggies and who ever plays tu. That's RIVAL!!!

I think there are probably only 3 or so reciprocal rivalries in the SEC where each team picks the other as their main rival:

-Red River

-Iron Bowl

-Probably the Egg Bowl

-Maaaaybe the cocktail party? Would Florida pick FSU instead?

The horns and the Tide are in that grouping of programs that a lot of teams hate very deeply.

That said, if we string a few great seasons together the public sentiments in Austin and Baton Rouge might shift

We are tu's main rival by far. Just look how they came into the SEC and demanded to take the rivalry weekend game with LSU away from us and play them. Now we're going to be one of their 3 permanent games when we get a 9 game schedule next year. I thought we left them in 2011, but they won't let us go.

The pigs have got to hate us, still cant believe ALL the close OT games we beat them in, the oink doink, etc... I bet they think we've got the refs in the bag.

We are tu's main rival. The fact that they say OU proves that we are their main rival. They think it pisses us off and makes us look small. This is why they do it. No one from the state of Texas even cares about anything from Oklahoma.

The OU tu game is a great marketing scheme. 4-5 games into the season, historically playing three pansies and one Conf game before the "rivalry game". State Fair, neutral site, crappy stadium split in half, etc. This game was set up to have both team come in at 4-0 or 5-0, so both are ranked and each year is the game of the century, before they play any hard games. Lots of press.

Just beat everybody

You've got to start beating people regularly and often by notable margins to develop the "respect" of a rivalry. Anger is a powerful drug.

Texas would pick A&M or OU depending on how well either OU or A&M's program is currently doing.

You don't invite your biggest rival to follow you to a new conf. Most will tell you they don't like losing to ou but they hate losing to A&M.
