I haven't seen us do a fake anything in what seems like ever. It was a beautiful thing to see. And the it was more of a game changer than would seem with the timing of when it happened, not to mention the extra time it took off the clock and the extra score cushion we got from it.

Elko's got balls and it's been paying off.

I haven't seen us come after punts in a very long time either

Always struck me as strange that we didn't use them. Seems fitting to use one against a ranked opponent, at home, to get a bit more stability for a win

That literally took my breath away. Couldn't believe it. And it was so unexpected that it was genius. Just another Elko reveal that I loved.

I was borderline depressed that we screwed up a potentially important drive. Nearly missed the fake because I was sulking too hard

Elko talked about it in the PC. Go ahead and try to over-commit on a punt block....he just mind ****ed whoever we play going forward and at the same time bought his punter more time every time he is out there.

Pretty damn genius.

I'm always thinking, "Watch for the fake," when we're on defense. But I was totally surprised when the Ags did it. And they executed it beautifully.

Seems like we are going for it on 4th down a lot more than I'm used to. We've gone for it 14 times and have converted 8 times this season. Would be interesting to see how this stacks up to past seasons. But it feels like elko isn't afraid to take calculated risks unlike our past coaches.

I'll add there seems to be a general trend across all levels of football to go for it on 4th down more over the last 5-8 years or so. I think a lot of the statistics are showing that it's actually beneficial overall to go for it in more situations.

My oldest son and I both couldn't believe it when it happened. So uncharacteristic I actually said out loud, "did they really just run a FAKE PUNT??"

As scoring has increased, each possession is worth more.

Yeah, when you got a punt return man like we do, you try to set up a big return every time.

Just rewatched the fake, there probably should have been a penalty called against us. I don't think everyone was set for a second before the ball was snapped. I'm being picky, I know. But things like that come back to bite you in the a$$.

I especially liked the actual play - snap to the man lined up left and give him two lead blockers in case someone stayed home.

That's a tough snap for the long snapper to not tip his hand by lining the ball up to his right.

There was a pretty good snap motion lean by the up block crew.

This

And you can bet a smart guy like Elko studies those statistics

I want to see footage of the ref setting the ball then offense takes the field and we get a delay of game.

During game, it looked like major BS.

I've rewatched it a couple of times. Tinfoil hat me says ball was set and play clock started before chains were there. Concepcion is speaking with ump and ump is shaking his head no with clock rolling hand motion.

I heard Coach Elko explain in the post game presser that part of the reasoning in going for it was that teams have been getting in exotic punt block formations by overloading one side and that these formations aren't sound against the fake. We've had two punts blocked this year so far I think. He said Mizzou was showing those exotic looks so I guess he made them pay for it.

That had to be one of the greatest fakes I'd ever seen, and I, like most of us, have seen many.

If Elko was willing to reveal that now, I can only imagine what he has up his sleeves for the sips.

Ever since we had our 2nd punt of the season blocked vs LSU I thought they probably had something up their sleeve with regard to a fake punt scenario. I was a little surprised they used it in this game but it doesn't preclude doing it again I suppose .

Would have liked to see Rogers (#19) block his man instead of continuing to run downfield...

I am no football guru. Far from it. However, for my whole life I always thought it ridiculous how quick teams were to punt and give up on a possession. Every time an opposing punter trotted out on a 4th and 1, I felt a sense of relief, thinking "wow, they could probably keep this drive going if they tried".

It shouldn't have taken this trend this long to take hold. Seemed obvious.
