What sucks to me is the year I applied it was harder to get in A&M (from talking to fellow classmates at Southlake Carroll)... A&M was also ranked higher in the US News list (I applied to both- got in both- but felt more comfortable in a real college town)

But then, from what I understand, the student population size has basically doubled since 2000.

That said, the vast majority of students at A&M are still picking A&M over Texas.

Could've gone to either school. Heck, I even had a full-ride to OU, but I chose A&M, the only school I applied to. Gig 'em.

What's interesting is that there are a whooooole lot of sips out there whose kids are at A&M because they weren't top 6% (or whatever it is now) and they are salty as hell about it.

FYI, jocks can get into any school if they want him

A small percentage of jocks are going to get into these universities on academic prowess.

Greg McElroy said it and while he did QB for bama he is also from Southlake and has admitted often that he is a tu fan.

And he is from kommiefornia.

I was from out of state (Maryland) and had already been accepted to UMD, Moravian College (a liberal arts religious school in Pennsylvania) and had just narrowly missed going to a service academy because of the physical requirements. A&M was not on my radar, but they wanted me because I had an ROTC scholarship. The admissions deadline had already passed, but they mailed me the Texas Common Application and I filled it out and mailed it back. Got accepted knowing nothing about the intra-state college dynamics. Knew nothing about the rivalry with tu, just that there was one. Had I gotten into a liberal state school I would have been dismayed but not surprised. Unbeknownst to me, the school's values aligned with my own, and again without knowing it I had just gotten into the best college band there is.

I graduated from a small private school, and every senior in the top 10% received an acceptance letter from tu, whether or not they had applied.

Most of us probably were accepted at both and chose A&M.

I was accepted at tu and never even applied. I did have my PSAT scores sent there because they would send three to whichever university for free. A year later I get an acceptance letter and a dorm assignment in the mail.

Reciting a quote from 16 "If you don't get into Texas, you end up going to Texas A&M State".

Everyone knows all the Texas rejects go to Texas State. The reality is most of their fans couldn't get into A&M if they tried.
