The committee adjusted the winning stat down to 59.5 from 60 in order for him to get on. Bout time. If he isn't first ballot, we riot.
However, it brings up the metrics and numbers gatekeeping the HoF argument all over again. The NFL one is a joke now after Belichek and I'm not saying this particular case is even close to that debacle but it does highlight the range of subjectiveness for a coach to get in the Hall. We know it's there once they are on the ballot, but should there be some on WHO gets on the ballot in the first place?
The two main requirements of .600 win rate and 10 years coaching minimum just seems too shallow after the briefest of examinations. Multiple cases of coaches walking into absolute disasters of programs and using their incredible coaching skills to bring them up will never get in because of the rebuilding phase costing them that precious win percentage.
You just can't truly quantify impact to the game or specific programs. Win column isn't it, again, especially early in a massive turnaround.
I know we had this discussion already after Leach's passing but with this news it just made me upset at the system all over again. And the damned thing is for me, is that I don't have an actual good solution currently to fix it. Either way, just wanted to share that Coach Leach will be on the ballot soon.

ETA: Just realized the lowering rule was implemented last year so SIAP
