That we are No 1 is old news. But we also have five 5* players. We lead for 2 more 5* recruits.
Our average player rating is also the high at 91+

Elko and team have done an amazing job. Now the harder part to translate that into a Trophy.

on3 ratings.

Seem like the big fish realize the slots are limited so they better get on board now. Hoping this will drive a couple/few more big decisions soon.

And I'll add this class feels so much more complete than Jimbo's 4 or 5 years ago where it felt we were just chasing stars.

I'll give Elko this. He seems to be a great evaluator of talent for his system, including attitude, work ethic, etc. It's very impressive.

Dobson, Callis Williams, and McFarland all seem like great possibilities. That would be 26, can't have much more room than that can we? Wouldn't mind adding another interior OL and interior DL if there is room.

That would realistically benefit UT more than us. Coaches are doing some good work

What chances that our 2027 is the best class of all time beating our 2022 one?

This time we got a reach coach who doesn't suck.

In real time, that class seemed pretty fantastic.

Only after everything fell apart was it apparent it was on-paper-only, and that some of the recruits weren't very committed to actually being football players.

While 2022 was obviously a helluva class, it lacked position diversity in the top 8 guys. 5 of them were DL. 5 DL, 2 WR and 1 QB. Only 3 position groups. The top 8 guys so far in this class represent 6 different position groups. This class might not score higher on paper but in many peoples opinion could be a better class because of that.

OBJECTION; ERRONEOUS! This is revisionist history!!

To be fair, some of us saw some glaring "warnings"; for example, I saw a video on YouTube where one of our WR signees came across as a major DB in a pick-up b-ball game (I THINK his name was Chris Marshall, but whoever it was, he flamed out so quickly that I never gave the kid a 2nd thought). Also, we all remember Harold Perkins' antics in February; if THAT didn't have folks questioning Jimbo's abilities to assess a player's ethics & maturity, then they were definitely gulping-down the Kool Aid. In fact, I'll wager folks began to doubt how well the ratings would translate into production on the field by that Summer; at such time, we weren't focused solely upon Saban's comments. Instead, we were worrying about what we were hearing, & seeing, that led several of us to conclude that a number of those highly-rated kids were clearly the product of the recruiting gurus' circle-jerk, echo chamber.

I do NOT believe that's the case with this class, as Elko & Co were locked onto several of these kids long before the recruiting gurus' bandwagon applause & praise, as well as afterwards, when we gained a commitment from a prospect that was still off of the gurus' radar. That (presumably) shows Elko & Co formed their own opinions, based upon their own evaluations, instead of relying upon an evaluation by some 'nerd' or 'band geek' that never played a day of competitive sports in their life but is now a "recruiting guru."

I've always felt like the issue wasn't the 2022 class. The issue was the classes before and after. The best programs were/are recruiting top 5 classes EVERY year. Look at Georgia-top 3 classes year after year after year and multiple number one classes under Kirby Smart. Getting one top ranked class is not enough. Elko has to continue to establish a reputation of developing and getting guys to the NFL. If he does that, I believe he will deliver top 3 classes annually.

Thrilled to have the kind of talent that we're reeling in. Trying to get a fuller perspective on what's going on. If you believe the stats from an earlier post, we're #5 for NIL to spend. Are we overcoming tu and others simply on selling our culture? My cynicism says that $$ speaks louder than that. Could it be that others are saving for the portal while Elko is putting more emphasis on high school kids?

We likely had a lot of NIL available to spend with so much departing nfl talent. We have shown we do like to spend in the portal, but it's possible we lost out on some or didn't think others were worth the price tags in the transfer window. That would leave excess to go secure an elite high school class.

Or, there is a change in philosophy where our roster builders believe securing and retaining high school talent is more cost-effective in a multi-year program build than trying to secure a team full of mercenaries at a premium every single year

If the class holds together and we are struggling in 2028 then there needs to be serious questions about Elko

Nah. The 2022 will go down as the single biggest busted class of all time. The flame outs, character issues, etc. had little to do with the signing classes before and after it. It was an abject disaster and a lesson in putting to much faith in the star system.
goodag88

Was it an issue with the star system, or with the overall environment and lack of discipline on the team?

Your points on consistency are appreciated, but how can you say that about the 2022 class with a straight face? Over half of the team was kicked off, suspended, or otherwise transferred by end of year two. By end of year 4 there were maybe 2 nfl players graduated from a&m, and only a few others even on the roster? This from a class with 8 five stars and considered the greatest class of all time? Absolutely nothing to show from Weigman, Evan Stewart, Chris Marshall, Denver Harris, Anthony Lucas, Gabe Brillo dindy. All 5 stars.

Shemar Stewart, LeVeon Moss and Walter Nolan alone lived up to their billing, and big Walt bailed when the checks stopped clearing the way he thought they would

No one cares. As I already pointed out Elko has earned trust for building a correct culture and targets correct character guys.
